Upgrade troubles
I've sent in my upgrade request online two weeks ago today and I my request is still "open". It's just a Cat5 to Cat4 upgrade, but I am signed up for an omni this weekend in Cat4. I've emailed the person in charge of upgrades but nothing. So, now I'm trying to get in the Cat5 for the omni by emailing the race director, but who knows if that will work.
So, I might be out $60 plus not being there for my share of the hotel bill plus any pay-outs I may get/have gotten.
Any suggestions?

Print your upgrade request off the usac website and take it with you to the race. Talk to the race official at the start and have them either ok your upgrade or put you in the 5's

The same thing happened to me...it took him a month and wound up making my life a lot more difficult while I waited. He's done the same thing to one of my teammates (its been 2 weeks since he's asked to be upgraded...).
A very cool guy in person, though.

Dang, sounds like its pretty much out of my hands then. I'll try showing the race director the upgrade request and cross my fingers and at least hope that the Cat5 races aren't full.

Have your race resume, showing more than 10 mass starts, with you and you shouldn't have a problem.

+1 to print out your upgrade request and show it to the USCF official and race director. If they have space, they'll probably honor it. And, eamil USA Cycling. This happens all over the country and we need to start to tell the bosses there that they're not doing their jobs.

Register as a 4. If not resolved ahead of time, do as others have said and print out your request submission as well as race resume and copy of the data from usacycling that shows your request as open, and get there early enough to track down an official and get the matter resolved prior to picking up your # at the registration desk.
Before we get too down on upgrade coordinators, let's remember that they are doing this as VOLUNTEERS, which probably represents way more contribution to our sport than most of us posting on these forums.

I didn't find out about going to the USCF official at the race until after I got my upgrade.
Which Omni is this?

Gorge River Omni in Chattanooga TN.
I got a response from the race director. I got my request to be moved into the Cat5 race. I have mixed feeling about being moved... my chances of winning have increased, but I'm missing a valuable opportunity to get Cat4 points. At least I get to race.

Timmy,
I emailed the Virginia guy last month and never heard back. Why don't you swap your Cat5 for my Cat4? It's not like a asked to be Cat4!

Oh I think I just realized who you are runtimmyc. We talked over the travelling plans to Tenn last night at Wednesday Worlds. Just noticed the location under your handle...
You know it just may be worth bringing your resume down if you really want to do the 4's race. They would probably let you in though I understand the hassle of going through it again.

Have fun in Tennessee. Don't let anyone sprint into you!
[One friend reckons I'll have so many style points that no one will chase me down... I think the C's don't really understand style appropriately yet...]
