Weekend of pain

My brother-in-law (houston_biker) came down from Houston for some family events, and we went out to tear each other up on some rides.

First ride was ATC (62 miles, riding from home), which really has to be one of the best shop rides in the country. It looked like 150 riders. Pat McCarty and Jen McRae showed up, along with the who's who of TX racing, including cat 1s, and a national champion. Before I got there, I had hopes of a high placing in the sprint zone riiiight. There was a 2-man break off the front (local guy likes to start things early). We managed to stay in the chase group, where I did a lot of work, through the fast part, then sat up to wait for other friends who didn't make the selection.

houston_biker was amazed at riding with all these elite riders, as there just aren't any rides like that in Houston. Austin really reminds me of Boulder in that respect

Then I started cramping. Dunno how I got dehydrated, but I did. It was BAD. I just tried to get home without injuring myself. During the 62 mile ride, I drank 144 oz, and still came home 3 lbs lighter. Still, I got home, got hydrated, and my legs weren't even tired.

Next day: Jester at 7am, mano-y-mano, just a drag race up it. houston_biker follows me for about 10 pedal strokes then shoots up the road aggressively. Rather than go with him, I concentrated on my pace, looked at the ground and got my rhythm for 10 pedal strokes. When I looked up, he was 20m ahead of me, but I had found my pace. I ramped it up 1/3 of the way up, caught him 2/3 of the way up, and ramped again. He used me as a rabbit, and held me to 1s. I got my 2nd best time ever, and he got a PR. Good show.

Then, we drove straight over to the local TT course, changed bikes, and did the 8-mile TT. Jester had about killed both of us, so we went a bit slower, but all is fair since we both had done the same rides. It was my turn to be the 30s rabbit, and he beat me in the TT by 16s, which is much less than last time -- the TT position did well for me, and my legs didn't fall asleep. Got back from this nonsense at 8:30am and got started on the family events.

Tired legs, so I just commuted in today.

What does that mean, "held me to 1s"?

I only beat him by 1 second. I rode a 3:09, and he rode a 3:10.
