I'm not the slowest USA Cycling guy by the way

Currently 921st out of 1593 45+ Vets in the national individual TT rankings for 45+ riders on the USA Cycling website. That means at least 1/3 of my peers are actually SLOWER than me. Hard to believe, but there it is. Find somebody else to piss on you Road Nazis. Pcad is getting faster. Oh yes. I don't think KP or Dr. W. have much to worry about however.

How the F can so many licensed guys be slower than me? God, that's unfathomable. But it cheers me up.

And that's my motivation. How far UP that ladder can Pcad crawl? Stay tuned.

Does USA Cycling rank everyone who does a TT? I'd be curious to see how low my ranking is.

*Raises hand*
Statistically, over half the people slower than PCAD are faster than me.

Put your hand down CastIron, I'll call on you.

Yes Spongy, if you do only do one TT you are in the rankings. That can give the slowest riders an incentive to see how well he/she can do vs. the entire nation/their age, etc. TT's give anyone who wants to ride competitively a safe and non-threatening way to do it. The range of ability/ages at these TT's is fascinating. From Cat 2's who are actually faster than some entry level pros to Dr.W to 12 year old kids to 65 year old men. I never did TTs in my racing days because I never thought I'd be competitive enough to win or place (and I could in mass start races). I didn't think I was fast enough. But now I don't care. And I really enjoy the training/preparation/TT bike aspect of it. I didn't think I'd enjoy any of that. The challenge of getting faster and crawling up the TT ranking ladder is motivating for me. And that's what I need - something to make me faster/fitter. If my competitive cycling life is limited to TT's and rides like the Nyack Ride, that's fine with me.

Very happy to have discovered this. And thanks again for all the great TT advice and input from all the knowlegable TT weenies here, particularly Dr. W and UT Dude, but there are many others. This place rocks.

While appreciate the input about disk wheels, handlebars and skinsuits, what will make me faster now is better training. That means a PM. I'm researching it. Waiting for the Quarq thing, I suspect it will be that or PT SL by February.

Edit: Ya know in this day and age it's amazing to think my school system actually issued paddles to all teachers and expected them to be used.

Incorrect. You have to:

A) Be on a full-year license
B) Have said race be reported (for me, about a 25% chance of happening)

And this is the weakness in the system. I've raced 12 races this year, and show up in the ranking as having done 1.

I went thru this last night and im not even ranked. And the one race i'm creditited with is not even me. I wasnt racing that year and i dont live in TN. The racer has my lic. number listed as his for that race.

It also looks like you need to have finished top 25 to get points for crits and RRs.

Sure helps partly explain all the sprinting for 19th place in a Cat 4 crit (aside from the usual stupid reasons).

I just pulled up the cat3 ranking and a familiar name sits atop that list:

I did two TT's in 2007 (I'll do 5-6+ next year). They were both well attended races with 200 or so participants. Those results make it to the USA Cycling computer. Smaller local (vs. races that attract more of a regional crowd like the TT's I did) results might not. Pcad rides with the Big Dogs. And they **** on his head.

That explains a few races for me, but I have some top 10's that don't show up, and my one posted result is a 25th.

Wait, does this mean merlin IS the slowest USA cycling guy? I don't think it's him. I'd have to imagine being the Dead Friggin Last name on the entire list would be somewhat depressing, eh? Pcad might vie for that coveted honor some day. But not yet... not yet.

I'm the 2908th fastest Cat 4 road racer in the Country (of 3377). Unranked in crits and TT's.

Not DFL, but you can see it from here.
