Shimano to SRAM swap
I figure if I'm gonna switch from Shimano to SRAM, the only components I need are shifters and RD. Am I missing anything?

However, I'm also opting for a new chain, new chainrings, new cassette as my old ones are all worn; also I will get the SRAM FD; not such a huge hit to the wallet for me. Keeping my Shimano brakes.
BTW you can get SRAM pretty cheap on eBay. I scored Rival shifters for $200.

Correct -- all you need at the shifters and rear derailleur.

I was told in no uncertain terms to avoid SRAM like the plague unless it's their RED group. Just sayin'.

I may get the Red RD someday, b/c of the ceramics in the pulleys (I've been told that's the biggest source of drivetrain drag), but I doubt it...
