Power Tap SL

I made the plunge and bought a used PT SL off ebay, it is to arrive today. All the BF victories last year by those training with power convinced me of the benefit. Should be interesting as I've predominantly trained with perceived exertion in the past and recorded HR as a biproduct of effort. Last season family and work developments really limited my training time, and this hasnt changed, so I'm hoping the power thingy will help me and my coach really get rid of the junk, optimize my training, and direct me to race to my strengths.

Now, fellow BF members please be prepared for a thousand ?s on how to install, set up, record, turn on and off, and use this device ... and the charts, I'm going to need to learn how to post the charts!

Congrats! I've been training without even a recorded HR, and I'll be building my PT SL tomorrow night. Big changes ahead

I'll piggy back on your questions...

Yeah it may get rid of the junk, but you'll offset that time analyzing every single number.

Do you use excel? Perhaps at work?

If you don't, I suggest changing careers to a job that has you using excel 40 hours per week. You'll get pretty good at the charts.

Mine just came in yesterday as well, also off ebay. I'll be joining you when it comes to the barrage of posts. Installation was super easy and I was finding out how wussy I am right away.

This graph clearly shows that global warming is in direct relation to the decline of pirates in the world.

^yikes. not the direction I saw this thread going when I started it. Although the Pac man chart I do understand, but it looks like it is representative of the amount of pie I've eaten/day over the past week.

Hey, what's the program most everyone uses for uploading and using the data from the PowerTap? Is there a comparable (or better) program for Macs?

Cycling Peaks if you can find a program to make it run on your Mac.

That's right. I couldn't remember it's name. Most new Macs can run Windows programs. Unfortunately #1, I own an older Mac. Unfortunately #2, the software I use for analyzing Garmin data is better on the Mac (Ascent--don't mind plugging it here as it is awesome) vs. any PC offerings.

Are there any command-line/one-click programs out there that will just download off the PT and save it directly to a file?

I'd prefer to use my own spreadsheet/logging (etc.) and was wondering if there was any quicker way to get raw data other than opening some program, importing it, naming it, exporting it, and then finding the file.

I searched around and found mention of a ptapdl.exe but I haven't been able to locate anything like it.

How about this snarky comment: A power meter without Cycling Peaks Software is pointless.

You could just dload it with poweragent (native PT software) and export the CSV. I use the CSV for a certain type of file analysis. But honestly, for overall power meter usage, you'll spend a lot of time/effort doing for yourself what the Cyclingpeaks folks have already done.
