Tubular 21, 22, or 23mm?

Which tubular size for road racing for carbon deep sections? Can't get my head round using a 21mm tubular after using 23mm clincher tyres.

In general, the wider the tire, the more cornering grip you have, so it depends on the race, but since most road races are not that technical, compared to criteriums, you could probably use any of these.

What wheels?

Personally I would take a 21 over a 23 anyday.

I had 19mm tires on my Bonty carbon wheels, and really didn't like them....I think you can get some 22mm tubies, so if it were me, I'd go that route.

I'm not sure but I think the way tires are measured are a bit different with tubulars. I run 21 or 22 mm tubulars and I consider them "sort of the same as" 23c clinchers.

Vittoria 21.5mm
Conti (which I don't like) 22mm

If you want round tires with straight tread (not a given on tubulars as they are on clincher tires) buy the Vittorias.

My 23c Michelins look about the same size. They actually look smaller but it might be in my head and I don't feel like measuring them since I'd have to go outside to get to the bikes.

19mm is sort of like 20c. I have a 19mm conti on a 17mm rim. Vittoria's tire would be a 20mm. They're equivalent to a 700x20c.
