    Cheater got caught on Saturday

So we had our first event of the season--Tundra Time Trial. Nice warm weather, times were heck of a lot faster than last year. We start looking at the results as they are posted and we notice somebody has posted an absolutely smokin' fast time of 19:17 on the 9.25 mile course. Nobody believes it, it must be a mistake. His time is up there until the last update. There was no record of him making it to the turnaround. Awesome.

Winning time was 20:07 (not mine ).

Yay. I don't understand the motivation to win if you have to cheat to do it. Winning knowing you've cheated seems to take all the accomplishment out of winning. Like cheating in video games. Only with bikes.
    Bring the pain.

ACA had a guy a couple of years ago who saved his number from a previous race and then jumped in on a crit without registering. Just might have worked but the dude crashed and tried to file an insurance claim. Did not work!

agreed. I don't see how you get any enjoyment out of it.

Cheating in Amateur bike racing is pretty pathetic. There's not enough money to motivate anyone to cheat.

And no one, other than yourself, really gives a rat's ass how you did anyway. So the only one who actually cares, and matters would know you lost anyway.

A few years ago I ran a Tuesday night TT series here. I had points and a website and people posted pics and I posted all the results etc. we had points for placing but also points for best improvement (regardless or cat) each week. All good.

I would be the last to start (after holding the next to last guy) and would chase everyone. I started seeing stuff I couldn't believe. One guy had his buddy lurk around the bend on his scooter (read motor scooter) and pace him to about 2km from the finish. His time obviously improved DRAMATICALLY and I guess he figured we'd never notice.

Stuff like this started to happen more and more often. After we reached the end of the "winter" season I shut it down. I was pretty disappointed to say the least.

I think part of the problem was cultural. What we would describe as cheating, to a Chinese person, is often seen as cleaver. This guys thought they were being crafty and couldn't understand why I was upset about it. I would use the same explanation if we were talking about copyright laws. Very often, they just don't understand it.

I have a friend who makes kiteboards here. He was showing me his website and I saw a board they had done with custom graphics that had a nike swoosh on it. I was surprised and asked him if he had the right to use the swoosh (I REALLY doubted it). He said, "No...what do you mean?". I explained it to him and he was perplexed. He took the photo off his site but I still don't think he understands why.

    Bit of a tangent there.
