I think Spanish cycling is looking pretty good.
What a great year Valverde had. He and Nozal seem to be the future, don't they?

He definitely seems to be the man right now. The only thing is you cannot really gauge what he will do in the future by really a half years performance. You look at last year where you had Aitor Gonzalez and Botero and they seemed as real if not maybe more so. What did they do this year? There seems to be a lot of shooting stars in cycling, sadly most of them flame out.

It appears that there's about an 80% chance that Banesto has found a new sponsor (the island of Balear). ONCE is in serious negotiations with a potential sponsor also (Staver?).
But Velo's right. Spanish teams are in trouble. Quality of riders though seems very high.

I think Valverde showed his stuff in the Vuelta, and
yes I think he is the real thing.
Nozal will be a good domestique, or even super domestique never more. I put him in the same league
as De Galiano (Igor), does well but never quite on top
of the heap.
