Have you guys raced these courses before? Any input?

I'm staying overnight Saturday around Gadsden-does anyone have any suggestions for a Sunday morning ride around that area or do I need to pack my GPS?

I have no clue about either race but the thought of racing on Barber speedway just sounds fun to me.

Hoover is a B'ham suburb FTW. This will be the first year for that race, if it's wet that course will be BAD. It is probably at least half down hill with a 90 plus degree turn at the bottom.

As far as the other two races they were both good events last year. Even though it was cold and windy at Barbers last year the 5 field filled up.

The area just Southwest of Gadsden has some nice riding, we actually had training races there the last 3 weekends. PM me for more info.

that's the car racing course, right?

if it rains, expect every corner to be like black ice. one of several reasons why i'm going to pass.

No, Hoover is around a High School campus, Barber Motor Speedwayis the race course the following week.

It does have lots of turns and some elevation changes, but it's as wide as they come. There's a full course schematic on the race's webpage (too lazy to look it up right now).

I practiced my drifting technique last weekend in the gravel so I wouldn't mind it, especially after the very detailed 'racing in the rain' thread

Percist did you race at Spain Park Saturday? It actually turned out to be a lot better than expected. I didn't think they would close all lanes coming into the last turn but since they did there was no issue. Well actually that and the fact there seemed to be a headwind coming into it also, at least in the 4 race.

Botto, as stated above this week was not at the race course but that will be this weekend. Last years race was nearly as wide with riders as long. It was really odd to have that much room and no line to have to worry about. If you are close to the area you should check it out! Plus the forecast "appears" to be GREAT.

was talking about it today. i'm tempted, although 70$ in entrance fees is ridiculous (i'd want to do the masters and cat 1-3 race if i made the trip).

It would only be $65 for two races. I agree it's kind of steep for multiple races, $35 for the first and $30 for each additional. I am also looking at doing two, the 30+ 4/5 race and the 4 race, if I can let go of that much money. I do know that the promoter does a LOT for the LAF and actually had to come out of pocket to get this rolling again this year. Not sure if that is the reasoning for the costs or not? If you end up coming this way let me know...

I did, overall a great race. The sun just started comming out for the 5's. That wind was killer all day long. I was with the pack until about a lap after the crash and then I couldn't hold the wheel. Couldn't have been more than 10 in front of me.

That last turn was a great place to pass, no one wanted to take it wide.

No primes and no placing but oh well, mass starts are mass starts for a 5. I was the guy in the white jersey on the blue Madone.

Botto look at it this way. If you plan to do the Master's and 1,2,3 race in at least one of them no one will know who you are so you could always make some change out of the deal. Of course by the second race you will be marked...

Percist I heard about the crash in your race, one of our guys was actually involved in it. He still somehow ended 3rd after that. Not really sure how bad the wreck was but not really sure how there was a wreck as WIDE as the course was... I race with Boo Koo/BBC, the multi blue kits. I will keep an eye out for you at Barbers. You just doing the Cat 5?

BTW is this you above the cone? http://www.steelcitycycling.com/gall...m&g2_itemId=99

It looked like Boo Koo was well represented. I signed up for 5 and the 4/5 30+ at Barber's but I'm having second thoughts about driving back up there this weekend considering how much I went over budget on my Hoover trip

That is me above the cone! Thanks for the link (especially since I was still in the pack!)

    I made a big mistake......

Forgot part of the NCAA tourney was going on in Birmingham this weekend so every hotel around is booked solid for Friday night. Well my first race is at 11:30 so I will be driving down leaving my house around 4:30 Saturday morning...

    Fun times!

That is surprising seeing as how they are making a big deal about the lack of tickets sold for the NCAA.

I put Memphis in my GPS earlier today cause botto said it was 8 hours round trip. It only showed it being 240 miles and that is without most of I-22/Corridor X being used, which is open all but the last few miles into B'ham now...

I may have some extra room for any out of towners...
