Seriously. Nothing like an access plate popping open in the middle of a race to make things interesting.
That said, I enjoyed Dixie a lot last year.

meh, it looks like the promoter doesn't turn in results, or at least has never done so in the past. We have a nice training crit in Charlotte every Tuesday that is free, so not sure it is worth driving and paying $20 for those within 1hr drive of Charlotte.

They actually have turned some of the results in (but not all, to be sure): https://www.usacycling.org/results/index.php?event=dixie
If I were closer to Charlotte, I'd head that way, but Ace and Dixie are significantly closer to CH than Charlotte, unfortunately.
Will you be in Greenville NC this coming weekend?

I'll see you guys in Greenville. If I can hang on the 1/2/3 crit after trying to be a factor in the 3/4 I'll be really surprised/happy.
As for Dixie...not with gas at 3.50/gal

Well on the one hand, I f*#king hate crits. But on the other it is only 250 miles away...LOL nah I doubt I will be going.
I guess I need to learn to embrace them, so if the weather is 99% going to be perfect there is a chance I will go, but most likely not.

Hmmmm on 2nd thought, this could be a repeat of the speedway race, I will go if I can count on you for a suicidal but ballsy attack on the first lap.

yeh i am probably gonna go to greenville - traveling all the way to charlottesville with the UNC cyclists that are steadily losing interest in racing sounds like a dismal prospect. the crits will be way more fun than some godawful road race dominated by virginia tech, and i could even win $! I'll be at Dixie too if I can get out of class in time.

UNC's club team has it come in waves.
When I was there, we had a solid 4/5 contigent with a smattering of 1/2/3's who'd show up a little less frequently.
Then it died.
Then I heard it came back briefly.
Now it might be waning again.

Yes, it is waning a tad but I wouldn't declare it DOA just yet. Some quality cyclists (Snuffleupagus et al) are coming next year so hopefully that will keep the argyle alive, and we have some newer riders that will probably stick with the sport for a couple years. As far as this year goes, however, we are probably out of contention for the overall standings but still might get a few individual results.

Snuff, Q, etc: Yeah, seems like everybody on the UNC team (except Q, of course) just got tired/busy/whatever in the last few weeks.
Cavalao, Snuff: I'm counting on Snuff's suicide attack to get things rolling in Greenville! Nothing like lighting it up from the gun... hey, it worked at OCS; it could work again

er yeah, don't know if that's accurate in my case. i was ready to abandon the team as well after i saw everyone else jumping ship. But I went on a group ride today and everyone seems to be excited about this one and tried to entice me to come with offers of beer. So... maybe I'll make the trip with the Heels after all.

Nice work, Q. Daniel missed the 3/4 due to a total of three flats due to slow leaks, etc. but had a good ride in the 1/2/3 and finished 4th- great result for him, coming in behind (as far as he could tell) Hekman, Duncan, and Monteleone.
Anybody else have a good night out there?

'Twas a break. Me, Lucas (of the Durham group ride) and Jacob (App State). They got a gap, I bridged up, and we spent the next 30 minutes trading pulls. I pulled through the 15-mph headwind section essentially every single time. We had a 15-second lead on the pack for about 20 minutes, and never could extend it. I was getting a little worried that they would eventually speed up and we'd get reeled in. Every time I would look over on the backstretch, they'd be at the same spot. Finally, the promoter yells 10 to go, and apparently they figured they couldn't catch us at that point. The next time I looked over, we had gained like 30m from the previous lap, and I knew it was all over at that point. So then I just took off around the last corner and gapped my 2 companions by 20m to win the sprint, I even got a 2 handed salute in for the first time ever!
....and then I was completely gassed for the 123 race and got dropped when 3 cat 1's took off like a freaking rocket and lapped the field. dnf. oh well, one win in a day is fine with me.
