HTFU or scrap the trip?

I'm supposed to race tomorrow, in Lawrence, KS.

I just checked weather.com and they are calling for rain and snow. I live in St. Louis, so this is a 4 hour drive for me.

This race is not any sort of priority race.

Should I just HTFU© and go or scrap the trip?

FWIW, the Tuesday Night Training Crits started last Tuesday, but the forecast for this Tuesday in St. Louis is saying 70% chance of rain.

Take that chance, I guess. I can tell you one thing – if I were in your shoes, I'd be sleeping in tomorrow and going for a hard ride with some friends instead.

Driving 4 hours for a bicycle race is silly enough, but with weather that iffy? STFU (Smarten the F Up) and stay home or ride local. Save your Racing Expeditions for events that don't threaten to be massive bike racing clusterfkcs. When I'm driving to a race with iffy weather it's an hour away, not FOUR HOURS away.

Yup. That is my current line of thought.

Although there is a caveat; On the return trip I'm supposed to stop at Mizzou and spend some "quality time" with a girl I've been talking to. She's even come to some of my bike races!

Skip the bike rice. Go to Mizzou anyway. Problem solved.

Scrap the race. Drive to Columbia. Tell her you won. Look tired.

Im not sure i would want to go to Lawrence, Kansas in ideal weather conditions. At 8 hrs round trip your gas bill has the potential to exceed the cost of your entry fee. Eat the fee and stay home.

Eh, doesn't phase me. One tank out, one tank bank.

It helps driving a car that averages 33mpg.

I have a prius and wouldn't make that trip. There is HTFU and then there is IABS (I Am Being Stupid). Of course I always err to the IABS side.

Good luck either way.

Scrap the trip.

I've scrapped two races 90 miles from me due to inclement weather possibilities. Once I was right and once I was wrong. But the season's still early and a hard ride with your friends (or sleeping in if the weather isn't perfect) makes more sense.

Good luck either way.

What CAT? If you're racing in 3's and up, it should be clear by the 2:30 start time.
Looks like I'm staying home though. Our CAT5 starts at 11 and its snowing right now.

FYI, Fuel is generally less than half of the marginal cost of driving your car.

Rain? Yes.

Fixed it for ya. (Maybe. OP said he had a 4 hr drive. I have to assume he meant one way)

If im driving 4 hours one way, you can bet i wont be comming home for a few days. To my sensibilities, that's mini-vacation milage. IE only a stage race and then only if i feel i can be more than pack fodder would i even bother.

500 miles is close to one 50 dollar tank o diesel in my Jetta.

Its more like 280 miles each way.
Its still snowing here in KC. We've had one long winter and I'm dying to race too.
Go to Mizzou. Get a slice of Shakespeares. Get a Booches burger. And get a piece.

That race (Spring Fling) is basically a training crit. Zero payout unless you do all six events. 8 hours of driving for 45 minutes of racing. Granted you're probably eligible to race twice but regardless, not worth 8 hours of driving especially in questionable weather.

Yeah, I was gonna race twice.

But, seeing as its 8am and I'm just waking up, I'm not going.

Still going to Mizzou for a different "race."
