Prospect Park "Wish I was a Vet" March 23 report

As usual, ifnd the stupidly long version here.

Or the short version. I felt like a stupid Domestique soloing off of the front for 42 miles. In then end, I could not hold them off and I took third.

Oh, and it was nice to see PCaddy and get the kudos from MarceliNYC and PopDelusions. Hope everyone enjoyed their races.

Another great report for another great race. The only thing I STILL can't figure out is why you won't upgrade.

Frogge, I hate to break this to you, but to sandbag a PP 1-2-3 race you would have to be Levi Leipheimer. If Will shows up in my races next season, this will be Pcad's response:

At that point I will help you stack the sandbags.

Congrats, doc. I am most impressed you could latch on to the bridging group after being out for so long.

Oh... and settling in at 310W for the ride 40W below threshhold. Geez.

If you are a CAT 3 and placing constantly high at 1,2,3 races then its time to move up....... Even if most of the races around are 1,2,3 races.

Hes not sandbagging 1,2,3 hes sandbagging 3

i thought about this thread as i did some solo laps in prospect park this afternoon. i couldn't imagine the horribleness of soloing 40+ miles lap after lap like that.

IMO, he dishonors the sport by not doing so. Sorry, Will. I love your reports, I love your racing style, I'm awed by your attempts at ripping the legs off of the mere mortals around you. But for the love of God, man, don't make a mockery of the system.

it's not necessary. All of amateur bicycle racing is an inherent mockery of itself already. Besides, what's the difference? If Will is beating up on 1-2-3 races, who is he sandbagging? If he's doing that to 3-4 races perhaps. But if he's mostly in the 1-2-3, I'm not sure I see what the issue is. I'm just a bit surprised somebody hasn't taken noticed upgraded him. That won't change a thing. Next year he'll still come and crush the vets like roadkill either way. We need to upgrade Will to another sport, like rock climbing.

You all take this stuff too seriously. The only difference between you and beer league softball players is they have bigger guts, and they get laid more.

The only truism more absolute than my previous statement is that I suck at bicycle racing.

You OCP, self-absorbed, testosterone pumped, OCD, tunnel vision, deluded, lactic acid deranged friggin insufferable Road Nazi WEENIES. Sweet Dura Achee get over yourselves.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to make elaborate plans to sleep in NJ on Saturday night so I can go to the 6PM through midnite party, get up @ 4:30AM on Sunday, go to Brooklyn again and get my head handed to me (and pay for the privelage). Thank God I'm not as wrapped up in this pointless bullsiht as all of you idiots.

Its not when he beats up on the 123s its when he crushes the souls at the 3 only races. Reminds me of the big fat kid that sits in the baby pool with arm floaties on.... time to step up and hit the deep end with the big kids.....

If more racers like him moved up from 3 to 2 maybe we would see more 1,2 races instead of 123. Then maybe we would see more 4s move up to 3.....

And how many 'racers like him' are there in NJ? Let me know, because I don't know of any others.

Make a list, get back to us on that. Thanks.

All over the country there are racers like him... in every CAT. Wearing your rose colored Oakley's?

Your cutting insight takes our breath away.

Sandbagging in the USCF isn't exactly that big of a problem. If it is write your congressman, and your local USA Cycling rep, not necessarily in that order. In any event you can start busting Will's balls the next time he posts about some 3/4 race he crushed. As long as he's posting about P-1-2-3 events, you're blowing smoke.

Leave Will alone, he's the only super fast guy that will even give me the time of day in the bathroom before the friggin race.

Great race! Too bad you couldn't stay out there.

Regarding the sandbagging, it's not like he's just sitting in, waiting for something to happen. I still see where he's coming from by not upgrading. 1/2/3 races are still shorter than 3 races, and it's another level of training to compete there. The other Cat 3 teams are lame for not working on some sort of control. So, you see him go off for a 42 mile flyer, knowing his history. Is there really nobody in the pack with a 5-minute punch to catch him and wheelsuck him? I think they're just making excuses not to suffer.

I'm not saying WJ doesn't deserve the spoils of all his hard work, but a game can still be made of the situation. He's fast and consistently does well, but there are ways to mitigate the situation with strategy. It's not like you have to go out there and ride next to him all day.

I'm a cat 3, and knowing what I know, I'd use my 1m power to make sure I could catch his initial move. After that, it's a chess game... his FTP vs. my AWC. Both have plenty of moves to make with those bags of tricks.
I say keep racing and winning WJ. Maybe someone will step up.
