Race day fueling question

Next month I'll be entering a couple races where I'll be racing twice in one day, which is new to me. There will be about 1.5 hours between each race.

What do those of you who have done this before eat between races? Should I down my typical recovery drink of Recoverite after my first race? Eat a meal or stick to "space" food like gels and clif bars?

So you're saying sausage and gravy would be a bad idea?

Anyway, I suspect what is more important is what (and how much) I eat the day before the race.

First race is a 50min + 6 laps 3/4s, followed by a 40min + 6 lap 4/5s 1:45 later.

In the past, I've raced crits in two classes. I'd slam a recovery drink plus a 20-min cool down after my first race. Then usually I'll eat a sandwich (PB&honey) or something and keep off my feet until about 30-45mins before my next race. Regular food should be okay, as long as it's not steak and baked potatoes or fish and chips. You shouldn't have to try very hard to get warm for your second race.

I dont change eating habits from non-race day to race day.... With 1.5 hours between you could eat "normal" food between or just drink something. its your call.

I think anything not too heavy will be fine. Avoid stomach upsetting foods. If that were me I'd probably have a muffin of some kind or fig newtons, coffee or soda, some electrolyte kind of drink, and some protein (shake or, if I'm feeling the need, a Slim Jim or equivalent).

Okay, I'll be honest. I'll *plan* on eating all that. Instead, after the first race, I'll get caught up in story telling, comparing race notes, saying hi to friends, etc., then realize I have 5 minutes before the start of the next race and I really have to use the portapotties. I'll pour a Coke in one bottle, water in another, and roll up to the line with a mouth full of Fig Newtons.
