I think I'm done with Bicycling Magazine

So I got a subscription about a year ago as I was getting more seriously into riding. At first i thought it was pretty cool. I enjoyed the bike reviews, the articles on destination cycling and the occassional tips on racing. Now I feel like it's the same ol' sh^t and boring as hell. This months publication seemed very heavily weighted towards commuting, living car free (fold up bikes etc).

Is Bicycling just repetitive, has it gotten worse or is it that i am just becoming less of a Fred? Also, what is a good periodical that focuses more on professional racing?

I enjoy Bicycling Magazine and Mens Health in the same fashion: for wiping my ass and donating to the library. Though not in that order. Or necessarily with the same issue.

They don't say anything bad about any product in there since the companies are paid advertisers. It's one huge commercial/infomercial.

stopped buying that p.o.s. magazine when all they started writing about was who's doping, who's not doping, who's vocal about not doping, and whomever isn't vocal in their condemnation of doping, probably is.

I thinks it nice that every other issue has an article on "How to climb better in 2 weeks". I keep forgetting.

It seems like ever issue of Bicycling has 10 tips on how to lose weight fast, kind of like "Self" magazine for women.

I am a huge fan of "Road", it is a bi-monthly magazine but it normally has great articles/photos.

Buying per issue is silly. I did the 2 year subscription deal.

+1

also...

I stop buying it when they shifted publication here to the US for the US Market.

Procycling I hope is still a soley UK based zine. Thats what i've been buying.

I stopped with Velosnooze back in the 90's when they stopped posting Amature race results and I quit the MTB scene.

Road Bike Action was a horrible magazine. It's editior Garrett somebody or other is moron (my opinion). I think he's the editor now at Bicycling. Took over when they fired all the old staff and brought in new people. It went to **** from there.

Winning was somewhat decent back in the early 90's but it folded after a few issues.

Theres a new one called Road Bike. I saw it at Borders. Meh.

Truth of the matter is they're all irrelevant in the Internet Age.

Improve your climbing:

I think you will find that Bicycling is plenty laterally stiff, yet vertically compliant. It must be the new print lay up.

But is Bicycling done with you? Someone gave me a subscription years ago when I first started riding. After it ran out, they kept showing up. I think it's one of those deals where they get so much ad revenue that they make money by giving it away.

Once you figure out that they basically run the same articles about 6 months, "Climb Better", "10 things to make your bike feel new", you quickly realize what a waste of paper it is.
