Check this...

I crashed yesterday at conference championships because someone crashed in front of me and didn't move out of the road. It got in photo and video form, so I figured I'd share.

Video requires facebook to see it (for now). Hopefully it goes on YouTube soon...

https://www.facebook.com/video/video....4140&ref=share

Pics...

I'm (surprisingly) pretty unscathed. Derailleur has a bit of a scratch and the hanger is bent, and I bent a shifter in, but bike was pretty much fine too. My elbow is sore and a bit scraped up, but that's really it.

Now, I'm in Roswell, NM, on my way to tour of the Gila... Hooray!

Ouch! Glad you're ok. If you have pain for a while please have it checked out. I know you're young but these pains come back to haunt you when your older. Trust me.

Yikes!

Road surface looks pretty smooth. Glad to hear you're doing OK. Good luck at Gila.

Crashing - i'm sick of it. Legitimate crashes, I've had 5 in my life. 2 of them have been since 4/15, and I'm still bandaged up with leaky elbows. Crit season starts in earnest in about 2 weeks, yeehaw.

I didn't have the sound on (I'm in a hotel room right now with other people sleeping...), but I don't care. My elbows hurt right then, just because bones knocking against concrete is very painful, but honestly, I find it rather funny right now.

See how your hands are in front of you as you dive forward? THAT is why everybody breaks their collarbone when they fall off their bicycles. Natural reaction. Happily you avoided that nasty injury this time. Glad you were relatively unscathed.

I hear people say that but I don't understand the mechanics of it. What then are you supposed to do then? I thought a broken CB would happen from slamming your shoulder not from landing hands first.

Nope, I seperated by shoulder and fractured my collarbone when I had a mountain bike crash. My shoulder never even hit the ground.

if possible, try to flip over to have your backside down and land on your forearms and feet first, or what they teach in Judo and snowboarding.
It's tricky, but every time I've endo'd I pretty much did a back flip and came out with a torn backpack. It happens too fast for me to even figure out what happened with my eyes, so I can tell you this was instinctive.

Some one says "check your SRM" or something and a chick is laughing, strange people. Also check your helmet really well for small cracks. Your head is much more important than scuffed shifters.

That's a strange looking crash. Did you panic when you saw the guy standing there?

Awesome that you were relatively unscathed. If that were to happen on most of the courses here in southern california, you'd most likely be buying a new kit and digging gravel out of your wounds. Not to mention the 4-5 other guys running over and falling around you.

Some people just have that reaction when they see folks fall down. I mean... it was an odd looking crash, and it did look kinda funny. If it was apparent that he was injured, i'm sure the laughter would have stopped pretty quickly.
