More doping?

Seriously?

From the VeloNews Giro feed:
Quote:
One rider absent from yesterday's start was Gerolsteiner's Andrea Moletta. Seems the cops did a search of his father's car and apparently found a refrigerator with suspected doping products as well as syringes hidden inside tubes of toothpaste. Shades of Mrs. Rumsas, eh?

Anyway, he has been suspended... and the folks at Gerolsteiner corporate HQ are thanking their lucky stars that they're leaving the sport at the end of the year. One of these days, these boneheads will get a clue, no?

I saw that yesterday on cyclingnews.com but have not been able to find any follow-up. We will see how big this gets in the next few days.

When I saw Moletta was withdrawing for "personal" reasons that was my first thought. Then I said to myself, you're being too hard on these guys. Maybe his mom died (Delgado in a Tour) or worse, his kid or something.

But if there's anything to that Giro feed thing, well now.

Ah ... yeah. Most are still doping for sure. Most will never be caught, but doping is still a HUGE part of cycling and sporting in general. That's not going to change anytime soon.

It never amazes me how quickly a post on a specific instance of a rider suspected of doping dissolves into "doping will always be around" discussion.

In this case, it only took 5 posts.

At least this example happened to a rider for a team already on its way out.

It always amazes me how many people are shocked when an athlete is caught doping.

Cyclingnews is reporting that it's 82 packages of Viagra. I am not making this up. (Scroll down to 14:53, today's live report)

Who here is shocked?

Apparently your contextual meter is in need of adjustment.

It happens.

Do you remember Rumsas in the (I think) 2000 Tour? His wife was busted by French police at the border with doping supplies.
