Cycling Zen vs. Inner Wussy...
So I got killed today at the first Memorial Park Crit (Cat 4/5 combined) of the year here in Houston (and my first crit there ever). Made it four miles before getting asked off the course. Driving home, I could feel the self-loathing, telling me to HTFU, but a little devil on my shoulder (or was it an angel?) was saying "Hey, think about how much better you are now then you were last year. (I've only been riding a year). Good job, buddy!"
So... what do you do to beat back that effin' voice telling you "you're ok, you're super, look at all the progress you've made already!" Is the Cycling Zen just so unnatural for everyone that you always have to fight the urge to rest on your laurels? Or is it just me? Maybe I should just STFU and HTFU and ride lots?

Making a kilometer blurry
There's nothing wrong with recognizing your accomplishments over the last year. Nobody in that pack is magical -- you can be faster than everyone in there. Keep at it.
Reflect on what limited you. What was it that happened in the minute before you found that last gap you couldn't close? Figure that out, then figure out what small change would prevent it from happening next time, and make the change.
