And yes, I count 12 weeks of vacation. 9 for the Summer (students get 10), 2 in the Winter, and 1 in the Spring. I usually teach Summer School, though. It almost justifies the low salary despite the outrageous amount of training they require. I could be a lawyer or physician by now!
edit: Forgot to add that when I first started teaching, it was at a year round school and my position didn't go on vacation. Just Winter break for 2 weeks. Kinda sucked, but the extra $$$ helped pay for my wedding that year.
Masters races are the friggin' neutron bomb of bike shows. Seriously porno bike emporiums. Couple of years ago dude showed up for the 30's (here our Masters are 30 and up) on the BMC road machine with the full Campy tubulars, record build, and a Swiss national champions jersey, Team Phonak. Our Masters are Aussie Pursuit so right from the gun the 30's are about 8, 9 minutes back so we usually agree to paceline and hammer right from the start. So I'm behind Team Phonak and after 200 metres a huge gap opens in front of him and I look at him, and he's giving me the 'wave through' sign.
Heck though I could care less, he was having a great time. You know, it's just about fun at our level. No one is paying me to do this, and if I suck and am OTB in a C div club race on a Wilier Le Roi Record Bora blah blah blah so what?
It ain't like the guy who owns a Maserati but doesn't know how to handle it. I find these dudes on the sweet rides are usually OTB and don't imperil anyone; it's the guy on the cheap steel bike who's new to the sport, super-strong, hairy-legged, squirrely as hell -- that's the guy that's gonna be a problem.
I'd be doing myself, and you guys, a disservice if I didn't ride the hell out of this thing!
But in the end, does it really matter who is riding what and how they do? Really? It really bothers you what others spend thir money on?
Get over it, unless it directly affects you.
FS: Fuji SL1 frameset, 55.5cm toptube, excellent condition.
I don't understand why the OP doesn't just go to the front and drope the hammar?
You don't see anyone else's bike, you're on the podium in front of team '30CAT5's and if people are braking on a descent it's your fault.
Wind is a myth
If you can't beat them then you can use the excuse that they beat you cause they're on a more expensive bike(which is a pretty lame excuse)
"Meyrueis, Lozere, June 26, 1977. Hot and overcast. I take my gear out of the car and put my bike together. Tourists and locals are watching from sidewalk cafes. Non-racers. The emptiness of those lives shocks me."
uh, if you dont make it to the podium?? in santa cruz i think half the cat 5 field rides pro level gear!!
Show me a CAT 5 thats riding a 5,000 dollar bike slow and ill show you 10 others that are riding the same bike and are fast.....
Dont be a hater

I don't race to look anything...so if you think I look silly, well...don't talk to me at a race, I won't ever have time for you.
edit: ...oh, I'm a 5, I ride a $600 road bike. However, I just bought a SystemSix frame and by the end of the season I hope to be "that guy" because I am lucky enough to and I earn enough.
gravity: it's not just a good idea, it's the law.
Hey I could care less if C2 wants to judge people on appearance, that's his prerogative. I'm just sick of these stupid threads, helmet pro/con, carbon is bad, et al.
I don't even race, but If I could afford a full carbon bike with the bells and whistles, I would buy one. I could care less if someone who rides slow has a $10k bike. All I care about, is that you're out there giving it your all.
