Won my first race!
I competed in the OCup(Ontario Cup) TT/RR weekened the other weekend. I won the TT in the senior 4(like cat 5) by 51 miliseconds. In the road race I got a solid second.
In the TT I made the same mistake i did at provinicials last year. I didnt train with my bike in a UCI legal position, so I had to change it just before the race, making it a rough ride...So uncomfortable. So I have had it fit properly now to be UCI compliant, though comfortable ish.
In the RR, I finally learned my lesson. Its not a good thing to work your ass off the whole race on the front, and just be dead at the end. So this time I never got closer to the front then about 10th wheel, hung out at around 30th ish(about a pack of like 60-70). Came to the front once in the last lap to shut down a dangerous break attempt. Then melted back into the pack. Came around on the outside in the last 100m, sprinted for second. I have a race this weekend, I am up a category now, so Senior 3(like cat4/3), we'll see how that goes.
Here is a finish line picture of the race. I am the closest to the camera, I had to throw my bike for second.

Nice job. If I'm trying to conserve energy, I like to hang out in the 10th-15th position, rather than around 30th, but do what works for you.

You get a better draft deeper in the pack. During longer road races, I've determined that I like to hang out about 30 or 40 wheels back for the 1st 15 miles or so before I start getting serious about moving to the front 20. It's definitely harder to hide from the wind up there, but it's also easier to mount counterattacks or avoid the accordion effect, or reduce the likelihood of being caught up in a crash (note: it did me no good in that respect last weekend).

Hey Batman! You doing the K-W classic this weekend? I'm thinking of giving it a try, it would be my first race.
How fit are you? How long have you been riding for?
