No cat 3 races in NC?

I moved to NC a month ago and just got around to checking the race calendar. What's with the lack of separate cat 3 races? It's all just 5, 4, and 1/2/3. The State Games Crit tomorrow has all kinds of categories I've never heard of, like novice men 35-44, 45-54, and 55+ ... but no cat 3 race. What gives? Is there some statewide push to eliminate cat 3 races? It's not looking good for a down-on-his-form cat 3 like myself.

No better way to find form than getting pelted by a bunch of 1/2 guys getting their revenge after being pelted by domestic pros.

It's not everything...just most things.

Crossroads has 2/3s races, so it's not quite as bad Some of the more local stuff has 3/4 races, so you can give back a little pain too.

Hey now, quote the rest of that post:

That's right, 8 hours on the bike for the whole month of May. Form I ain't got.

Besides, I did just cat up, in a matter of speaking. My sense is that NC is about a half cat faster than OH. It's not that the racers are any slower as individuals, just that there were more and smaller races in OH (to the clubs' credit), so more points to go around and faster upgrades. So moving here, I'm about a half cat up. That I can handle. It's the cat and a half jump that has me thinking twice.

Thanks for the info, Snuff. I've half a mind to just pack it in and do the P ride and Durham Tuesdays rather than the races. Eh, we'll see.

Be glad... it is hot as hell here in the summer... too hot for racing IMO. It is cookie ride/ mtn century time until cross season starts... all the good racing here is from Feb-May... next year there will be lots of racing opportunities for Cat3 only stuff.

If you are a crit monkey, you have plenty to look forward to... if you like road racing, it is pretty much over... or rather the meat of the road racing season is gone till next year, that is all I meant.

Haha, I fully understand now. I am not crit monkey, but as a new racer I intend to use the crits to get my starts so I can start racing for points in the 4's. If nothing else it will teach me how to suffer, and I might see if I can make something stick.

At 135lbs I am better at road racing.
