Newmark Center Criterium
I was in the 2/3's
Covered a few early breaks, my two teammates and about 4 other guys got a gap about 6 minutes in. I shut down chase mode, a gap opens. The stronger guys had either just pulled to catch the other breaks or were in the one currently up the road, so not much was happening. Spend the next 45 minutes staying at the front of the pack at about 21-25 mph, slowing the group. I chase anything that tries to go off the front and sit their wheel including several strong rides from a Huntington Bank guy. There is one turn with a lot of room that no one uses, so with about 10 minutes to go, I start looking back to see if I can get a visual on the leaders coming around to lap us. With about 5 laps to go, I see two riders. As they get closer, I realize, it is my two teammates, no sign of the other group. Sweet.
They go 1,2, and cross the line in front of our group. I get a field finish. Probably the most satisfying field finish I have ever had.
Also, I think we won every prime, including the one for a tub of cheese balls.
As a side note, I have always been a climber, so my goal was to just hang in on this crit. Surprisingly, not only was I able to survive, I felt like this was the first time I was "racing" a crit as opposed to "riding" in one. Woo!

Nice job Bill. I'm bummed I had to miss that one, as the pancake flat crits are my thing.

Two reviews of the crit.
I love that course and wished it was on some night other than right before the state tt.

Good job Bill.
I was working the turn one corner and it looked like you were doing your job well. I hope they gave you the cheeseballs and I hope you eat them all.
