    ronde van mulica race 7/13/08. crash

    was doing fine felt like i was going to finish strong then this happened. 3 miles to the finish i was riding the yellow line (yellow line rule in affect) when another rider comes up on my left outside the yellow. i place my elbows out to try and make sure i dont get pushed into a rider on my right. he comes at me with an elbow! at that point, i should have let off and let him take his position. but i kept my elbows out trying to secure my position. i mean, the guy was breaking the rules and i just didnt want to let him in. well i paid for it. he thrusted at me with his elbow followed by his bike. i pancaked and then got run over by 2 bikes.

    the damage;

    1. scott carbon bike totaled(frame destroyed)
    2. my elbows
    3. my hips
    4. my knee
    5. my back

    thankfully the pile up that happened resulted in mostly bikes getting damaged. no one was injured beyond cuts bruises.

    what should i have done better? was i wrong for holding my position the way i did? cat5 so i know crashes are more prone in these races.

    honestly, give up the position. better OTB than OTG (on the ground). three miles to go, front of the group will change 10 x or more in a cat 5 race.

    sorry to hear about this and hope you heal completely.

    the d-head that violated the centerline rule and (according to your report) was riding erratically and dangerously should be reported to the officials if you know his # or can identify him.

    Yeah I would have just let him go, you have plenty of time to regain that position, I probably would have said, yellow line rule, or something as he passed by. And once you get to the 4's there will be even more of this activity.

    so um... I'm doing the 4/5 at Mt. Holly this weekend, could you maybe describe this fellow, so I can stay in front/ clear of this guy, provided he's back in the mix/

    I had two friends go down in that crash. I can understand and empathize with why you did what you did, but next time, let Capn Douchatude take the spot. Its not worth it.
