Working Man's Stage Race report:

3 day stage race in northern MA. small 2/3 field of 30 racers and early evening starts.

Day 1 was a 6.5 mile TT. It was my first experienc in the new TT position and it seemed to goo well. I averaged 106% for 15 minutes in a new position, so that was nice... but I was still pretty slow, finishing in 18th.

Day 2: slow 44 mile CR/RR witha small hill. I was super conservative until the last lap where the pack let me ride a way with 5 miles to go. No attacks, no huge efforts, just the easiest solo breakaway win ever. Strangely, I wish it was harder. Never the less, I'm stoked and earned some points.

Day 3: 80 laps on a banked oval car track. points race.
I got shelled, big time. I earned 3 points suffered a ton and really was not having fun. I had good legs, but raced like a scared doofus. It shoved me out of the money and into 10 for the final GC. Great workout though... if I had my PM, i'd guess my NP would have been in the 450watts range. Thats how hard it felt.

cool to race during the week though!!

Leo you do know day three is just referred to as the "Oval of Death" right? It probably has the most stretcher incidents per foot of track than any racing course in New England with only the Tufts Beanpot Crit coming near in my mind.

sick win. congrats

ldesfor1@ithaca 07-18-08 07:26 PM

thanks!

yes, the oval of death was not fun.

I did beanpot too, I thought beanpot was a blast!!

there's a difference between scary-good and scary-bad. The oval of death was clearly scary-bad.

thanks again.

How does a points race work in a stage race? Just like a crit with time bonus primes?

Omniums make a lot more sense than stage races for most of these 2-3 day affairs IMO.

TheKillerPenguin 07-19-08 06:31 PM

I hate, hate, HATE, HATE Omniums.
