How does the knowledge that Barloworld is pulling its sponsorship impact your enjoyment of the Tour de France?

How do the words "You ruined everything for me" not ring a sarcasm bell?

You would do well to leave the standup to Pcad.

Kenyan by birth. Curiously, the TDF web site has the Kenyan flag next to his name though I was under the impression that he was no longer racing under a Kenyan Cycling Federation License but his British license.

I was just wondering today (not kidding) why we don't see some country like Kenya crank out some killer climbers. They've got all these great endurance athletes who weigh next to nothing. I bet if you consistently took the guys who didn't quite make it as marathoners and gave them crappy bikes with sora and 28mm tires, they'd be spanking people in the hills in no time.

Shoes are much cheaper than bikes. The usual reason why you don't see many cyclist from Third World countries or even cyclist from lower income areas in the US.

I seem to recall that someone tried this, and found that despite the insane VO2 maxes, the Kenyans were just not producing the watts necessary to hang on the climbs, and especially on the flats.

"They" also tried it with XC skiing...which was a complete and utter failure.

There is more to cycling than a VO2 max (which is, you guessed it, dependent on mass) and your body mass.

That body type simply doesn't produce enough power.

Reminds me of an article...
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008.../27-marathons/ (check out the one about bicycles)
"Also worth nothing, more competitive white people prefer triathlons because Kenyans can’t afford $10,000 specialty bicycles."

AFAIK, Chris's grandparents were from the UK, and he grew up in South Africa, he took a British Cycling license this year (UCI license number - GBR19850520). Maybe he's after a place on the GB Nat pro team mooted for 2010? Which after Barloworld packing it in looks like a good move.

And Kenyans are black, white, indian etc (I can't remember the exact ratio, but I think it is majority black and then indian and then white)

I looked at the full standings on the Letour.com web site and there is a flag next to each name. But there probably is a better way.

Nah, it's a passport thing. You try getting visas with a Kenyan passport! It's much easier if you are British. E.g. all of the EU just let's you in with no fuss, except when you try to go home, when there is a whole song and dance because we opted out of the Schengen agreement.
