I raced
I won (in my class)
a 3/4 20 lap crit in Troy Ohio. Really hot, really fun course. They paid out top 14, and in addition, a nice Festina watch for both top cat 3 and cat 4 racers.
Last 10 laps, I started feeling the heat. last 4 laps, I started getting chills. I was about to call it, but I still felt pretty strong. I hung in there, and last lap, moved from the back of the back towards the front. I put it all out there for the last K and threw in 110% in the sprint. I ended up finishing 10th overall and 1st of the cat 4's. First w in the 4's. I got a pretty sweet watch that I am probably going to Ebay. Race 2 tomorrow. We will see how I do.
I lost my wallet on the way out to the race, so this kinda makes up for it.

Yeah, that was a fast race. Nice job.
My training, and subsequently my racing has suffered while preparing for the new baby, etc, so I'm going tomorrow for the 3's but not sure if I'm going to race or not. See you there.

Day 2 race: Tour d'Burg
Felt alot better. The race was cat 4 only, and due to running late, they cut the time from 40 or 45 minutes to 30 minutes plus 3 laps. I was towards the front alot more this race, looking for jumps. One guy jumped on the back straight where there was a head wind. I felt ok, so I jumped with him. Going around a left, he signals for me to pass, I take the pull and try and sprint through the following right turn. Well I was taking the turn a little too hot for being out of the saddle, and came out wide. I tap my brakes, back end gets loose, slide a bit, and I almost hit the outside curb. I managed to save it, but after that, I kinda lost my nerve, and basicly sat up and waited for the main pack to catch up.
Coming into the last few laps, it was turning out to be the makings of a feild sprint. Coming into the last 2 corners (almost a big U) I had kinda crappy position for the final straight. I felt super strong on the sprint, but only faired 10th. Oh well, overall good weekend.

Hey congrats on that win! That's really cool. That Festina watch will be a great reminder.
How are you looking for an upgrade?

I was in that race with you. I took one mini flier half way through to try and tire some guys out for my team mate. Going into the last curve, two guys locked handlebars right in front of me. No one went down, but I had to slow to zero mph. Oh well. Finished somewhere with the field.

I was the skinnery Trails-edge (green and black kit) guy (1 of 2 racers in the 4's), on the Specialized S-works

I have a ways to go. I've only been a 4 since the begining of this season and this season I've had some pretty crappy luck (mono, pulled groin muscle, crash, another virus) So far results have been:
Some College races (C's so they don't count)
Cone Azilia (think Paris Rebuix) last finsher (flatted 2nd lap. Soloed rest)
Kensignton 8th
Race for Alex 20th
Cedar creek Crashed DNF
Tour of Oakmount PA 8th of 41
Tour of Grandview DNF both days (sick with some virus)
Shreve Chiropractic Cycling Challenge 6th
Troy OH Crit 10th in cat 3/4 (1st of 4's)
Tour D'Burg 10th
Right now my ranking is: (before this weekend)
1 Rank in your state (MI)
13 Rank in your riding age (22)
66 Rank in 5 year age range (20-24)
169 Rank in 10 year age range (20-29)

I was in the 4's on Sun. too. Just cat'd up. I was hurting the first third of the race. Recovered some for the last third but things were getting sketchy by then. Just stayed at the back and jumped gaps as riders poped off. Finished 27 of 43, whatever. Worked the rest of the day in the pits and helping were needed.
Thanks for coming down, hope you liked our race and will return next year. Bring friends.

Ah, I saw you guys. I thought, what the hell are these mountain bikers doing here?!
As for me in the 3's, started dead last in a pack of 60 with 5 other teammates. First few laps were flying and gaps opened. I spent a whole lap on the front of the second pack trying to move teammates up. Finally caught them up to the main pack and sat in for the middle of the race. Tried to move up a few positions each lap and was sitting around 10-12th on the last turn. Guys started screaming INSIDE(I was on the outside) and cramming in the last corner. That made us go at least 6 wide and pushed one of my teammates into the curb. I was right on his wheel so the right side slowed down while the left side stayed clean. I came out way in the back again and made some moves around for like 20th place. Didn't sprint, just stayed seated an motored in. But I did pass two guys in like 25th place, just screaming, shoulder to shoulder, damn near locked handlebars trying to out sprint each other.
That made my day. considering the 1-2 days a week I've been riding, I'm not unhappy, but I should have done better. Time to wait for the new baby to arrive any day now and re-focus for cross season.

What day was this on, Troy (Saturday) or Miamiburg (sunday)?
Yea, my shop has a pretty big MTB following/race team. I haven't been on a trail this year. Not to be mistaken for a trail rat; Shaved legs and no camel back for me

looks to me like he has 1 point, from the 6th place finish at the chiropractic race, assuming it had minimim field size, but 5 top 10s. 10 top 10s is one of the criteria that can be used for the 4-->3 upgrade. every upgrade coordinator interprets differently, but typically a 10th place finish in a mixed field, even if you won your field and deserve all the props for it = 10 place for upgrade points and therefore 0 upgrade points.
