That you went, pinned a # on, and lined it up earns you respect in my book.

Anybody who pins on a number and lines up to race has my respect and the respect of most of the racers on this board, I imagine.

That being said, if you want to continue to earn that respect....

Now you know what kind of speed is required. You have a real goal and yardstick for training. Go to it.

Yeah.. this was my 5th race this year, but it also was the fastest lap times i've experienced so far. 25 and 26mph on the first two 1.1 mile long laps. I just couldn't hang on since the start was so furious that I was in the back 1/3 of the field and was never able to move up.
I did get 22nd out of 50 racers, so I guess the pulled 50% of the cat 5 field before me.

Now you've kicked off one of my training rants, which is: most riders don't do enough "top speed, all out" efforts and that's where the gaps happen.

Work on your 1 minute top speeds/max power, with long and short recoveries.

If you're a power junkie (I'm not) I think that's called 1 minute CP ?

Were you in the first heat or the second? XXX racing set a pretty quick pace for both heats.

I was in the 7am 1st heat. Almost 1/3 of the field was XXX. My computer recorded a 25mph first lap avg and a 26mph 2nd lap avg. I got spit out the back at lap3, so my avg dropped to 24mph.

To friggin fast for my still way to slow ass.

Yeah, I've done specific crit workouts. 30sec on (high gear, a quick acceleration like out of a turn and into a long straight) followed by 1 min or 30 sec spinning. I've done +60 min of this and it sucks, but our workouts should be a bit tougher than our races right? It has helped me mentally hang in there (finishing the 60 min is rough) and I think it helps you learn to recover under pressure (more mental than physical, I think).

Anyway, that course was pretty cool. Can't beat racing downtown. Sorry I missed your race, I showed up for the second heat

+1 keep showing up. I went to a funeral today and this guy's grandkids thanked him for various things he did. Everyone of those kids (ages 7-32) thanked him for showing up at one event or another.

Showing up really, really matters.

Keep showing up. Especially since you will see progress.

It was an exceptional effort - especially going out to do two races.

Thanks for the kind words

Tuesday nighters today. ~25.5mph avg speed throughout all 3 races. First 2 races I couldn't hang on. OTB twice.
For some odd reason I got my legs back in race 3 and was able to hang for 12 miles at 25.5mph. Fastest B group race I've been this year.
