they're gearing up for Armstrong's return next year. poor Levi is never going to get a chance to win anything of note.

I don't understand why asking if Tony will be there is funny. It's irrelevant to this post since he rides for BMC, but why does it make you ROFL?

I have never seen his name printed as "Antonio".

It has been Tony as long as I've known about him.

Antonio is his name. Does the name sound funny to you? It's often shortened to Tony in the media, but it is sometimes out there properly as Antonio. He is my wife's brother which is the main reason I was curious about your post.

Yes, it does. Considering what a laid back guy he is, I couldn't imagine an announcer or interviewer calling him "Antonio".

I've heard plenty of English speaking race announcers, including Phil Ligget, call him Antonio. The Spanish announcers and interviewers almost always use Antonio. He is pretty laid back until you cross him (read cyclingnews.com's race report from Downer's Grove), but if you spend time around his family the name "Antonio", wouldn't strike you as funny and would make sense.

And, I've never seen his name reported in results as anything other than Antonio Cruz.

He and Mike Sayers (I addressed him as Mr. Sayers) were both very cool when I asked them how things went for them, in the parking lot after Downers Grove.

I believe Mr. Sayers said, and don't quote me on this..."It always hurts. I just keep getting older."

I've seen both "Antonio Cruz" and "Tony Cruz". Either way, he's a nice guy and a fine cyclist. I spoke to him a few years ago at a race also.

Back to the subject at hand, the US Pro Championships...

Maybe big George will win the road race this year so he won't "wine".

Cyclingfans.com has live streaming of the race.

I actually looked up a few results before I replied to Bananatugger. It is Tony often. If it's something local and he registers himself, they definitely come up Antonio. I don't really notice because we do call him Tony, but I have heard his mom (the one who named him) get pissed when a race announcer will constantly refer to him as Tony.
He was pretty upset after Downer's (though he wouldn't take it out on someone who wasn't involved), he didn't even go to the podium and made some comments to the media. It was kind of drama here because my wife and I are good friends with Bahati. Tony is also and wasn't really upset with Bahati, but with the way the race went down. Bahati took his comments and his not showing up for the podium kind of personal and was calling here upset. They ended up on the same flight home so they patched it up at the airport.
