Allowed to race in pro team helmet?

Question says it all. I crashed, broke a helmet, need a new one. Found one I like with pro-team graphics. Is it okay to race in that?

I ask because I have hear/read that racing in team kit (not your own team) is not allowed under USCF rules.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

i have no reason to believe that a helmet with team logos on it would merit any sanctions.

if it really bothers you, peel them off, or stick some electrical tape over them.

It doesn't bother me...In fact, I kind of like the graphics (though usually I stay away from that stuff).

I just don't want to be called out at a start line.

I've only seen problems with jearsys and skinsuits - and only at the bigger races.

If all pro labels were banned, just think about what would happen to all those CSC labeled Cervelo's

As long as people aren't truly confused about which team you're on, no one will care

Wouldn't it be great if someone collected all the rules and regulations in one place (a book maybe or a PDF on a web site) where people could go to look up the answers to questions like this instead or relying on guesses and hearsay from strangers? Ah, to dream.

Why do that, when you come to BF and get snarky comments from fellow users? Isn't that the beauty of online forums?

Lol, when I was a 5, I saw some guy, probably 250ish lbs, wearing a full Yellow Disco kit, of course with a 5.something Madone. We lapped him 3 times in 35 minutes.

I raced with the "Offical" team Disco helmet for 2 years without anyone ever saying anything, and after my crash, I replaced it with the red and black IONS helmet which is the same helmet that Cadel Evan's team used. Both do not have logo's but are the "official" helmets

One could say, you would have to black out any logos on your bike if you aren't sponsored by them. Lucky the rule is only Jersey's.

I think OP stated he "hear[d]/read" the rule but wasn't' sure if it extended to helmets. The rule was intended to force USAC teams to hold permitted events to be allowed to wear their kits at USAC races. Since the rule-book specifically states jersey's I'd say you have no worries. And helmets, along with water bottles, bikes, shoes covers, etc. seem to be covered these days with sponsorship emblems. I don't see how you can get away from it even if you wanted to.

I assure you Cadel has never worn a Giro Ionos, if that's what you meant to write.

My team helmet is a red, black, and white Bell Sweep R, which was CSC's team helmet in 2007. No one's confused me for Cancellara.

I'm talking about a helmet which actually has a team name on it, in team colors of course. But it sounds like it is not a problem.

Yeah, I don't think it is. My buddy's Specialized helmet has a Milram sticker on it, and I don't think anyone has ever said anything about it.

There should be a USAC rule about hugging while in lycra. We already get enough comments as it is for walking around in tight clothes and fancy shoes... On an unrelated note, I'll bet if he took that watch off he'd drop 300 grams.

Better idea: instead of a USAC rule, the rest of the world (and the bike racers who think hugging in lycra makes them look gay) grow the **** up and stop worrying about teh man sex (which as ****-all to do with wearing lycra anyway... mostly, anyway).

We had a guy in full Rock Racing kit in a 4's race this year. Perhaps other officials are stricter, but I seriously doubt you would have any issues with your helmet.

Especially, as we've been trying to tell people, the rule only applies to jerseys and a helmet is not a jersey. Sheesh.

Go to a craft store and get some cute butterfly stickers or something.

Or have some electrical tape in the car and ask the commissaires when you sign in. I can't imagine anyone would care, but you'd be able to quickly black them out with tape if necessary.

A teammate of mine had a Euskatel Catlike helmet - it was great because it was so distinctive and bold that you could spot him way up in the peloton. I totally feel like a team helmet could be the most useful bit of common kit - in a big crowd, that's often all you can see looking up or back.

One more time, since it doesn't seem to be getting through to everybody. It doesn't matter if people care or not. There is nothing in the rules that says you can't race with the helmet of a team to which you don't belong.

Well, it applies to shorts, too, or so I thought. You only quoted the part about jerseys. Is it the only rule in the book about team apparel? I'm not being snarky, I'm serious. And yes, I lack sufficient interest to look it up myself .
