Finally placed at a pro-am crit!
Well substructure already posted his result from Fort Mill today, I certainly can't hope to top that but that's okay. I got there just in time to see him thoroughly dominate the last few laps of the cat 3 race... after that was the pro-1-2. The field wasn't too big but it was more or less stacked, heavy on the pros and 1s and light on the 2s. (The eventual winner was Aldo Ilesic, a ringer from Slovenia, followed in 2nd by Jonathan Clarke, Hilton's bro.)
Our race was 75 painful minutes, fortunately the pace wasn't 100% the whole time although the field kept fragmenting when people attacked. I was always able to get back on to the main group. There were 3 guys off the front for most of the race, I ended up in a group of 6 behind them with 2 to go that had a pretty big gap on the main field. If anyone in the group had gone hard it would have stuck, but, well, I didn't and neither did anyone else because we were all too pansy to htfu and commit. Anyway I came around the last corner (it was actually like 500 yards from the finish since it was a really long narrow 1.5 mile crit course) in 4th wheel in my group, but got schooled in the sprint and only managed 16th. Still that was the first money placing I got in a pro-am so I was thrilled - even more so when I realized I won $50 (thanks to the $2000 purse paying 20 deep).
Anyway I've been saying my season's over for about a month now but still racing in spite of it. I guess now it really is over (unless I can't resist doing 1 more crit weekend in October!) But I would consider this ending it on a high note!

I thought they paid 20 deep. That's awesome, man. I wish I could have watched, but my daughter was waiting on me to be picked up. Way to go. Oh and c'mon! Get yer *** down to Greenville on Saturday.
