How about some Vino? - Vinokourov to Astana
According to VeloNews, "Alexander Vinokourov has announced plans to return to professional cycling, with the Astana team..."
Astana could get awfully crowded.
VeloNews: Guess who's coming to dinner? Vino' wants to rejoin Astana

Awesome. Vino is an exciting rider who can turn the peloton upside down.
Hopefully the aso doesn't interfere and muck it up. Those guys got to go.
The '09 TdF could be one of the most exciting tours in a decade.
I would love and hope to see Basso, Vino, Armstrong, Contador, Pettachi, and Landis.
Now if only big Jan could be talked into coming back as well...that would be something.
Although he may need an extra year to recover from all the booze and hamburgers....

Like I said, as long as the aso doesn't stick their elitists noses in and screw it up.
I believe they are all eligable, just need to enroll in the drug test program.
I guess you didn't bother to read the entire (albeit short) post...

Exactly what part of "I hope" do you not understand?
Apparently you can read, but not quite understand.

I guess you didn't read the article? Vino is looking at the Tour for 2010.
"According to Belgian television channel Sporza, Vinokourov is aiming to return in 2009. But he said the Giro d'Italia, held between May and June, would be his first priority before an eventual return to the Tour de France in 2010. "My first objective will be the Giro," Vino said in an exclusive interview to be aired by Sporza on Sunday."

This could be the end of Astana as we know it. There's no way Bruyneel wants damaged goods like Vino on the team, but Vino's got connections in Kazahkstan and those connections could trump anything Bruyneel has to say about it. The ASO seems ready to let Astana in the Tour this year, but certainly not with Vino on the team. Do you really think Lance is coming out of retirement to ride for a team that might no get in invite to "his" race? Not a chance.
Plus, the UCI was going to pursue a 2 year suspension, but they dropped it because Vino retired. If he comes back, I'm sure they'll go after that second year, and I don't doubt that they'll get it.
There are some characters that cycling could do without right now, and Vinokourov is one of them.

I still stand by my prediction of a LiveStrong Pro Team, kinda the parallel team to Team Cervelo. LT would be on Treks, SRAM, Bontrager, Oakley, Nike, Giro, etc and be run by Bruyneel, anchored by Lance, and supporting staff of whoever. Just waiting for Astana to explode into smithereens.

Vino was by far my favorite Pro rider. I was disgusted when I heard the news he had cheated. However, I wouldn't mind seeing him make a clean comeback someday, I just wish he would admit his guilt and get on with it.
He was so fun to watch.

the sport really needs a senior tour like golf. all the over 40's could kick it in a shorter TDF with doping allowed. They could be called the "unlimited" class, and current pros. could be designated restrictor plate no dope class.

ASO will never allow him to ride any of their events. This is a non starter.

I doubt he's that dumb. Its more likely that Ferrari just mislabelled his blood bag, or gave him one of Lance's old ones.

It's a matter of time before the UCI makes the individual open testing done by Garmin Chipotle, Team Columbia, Astana (yeah they have had a big program in place) and proposed by Lance for himself indicidually mandatory for all teams.
I welcome all the riders back. The '09 season is going to be EPIC!

Would be so awesome if Jan came back into the mix as well, what a great rider. So far he says he won't make a comeback until the past allegations against him are dropped: https://www.velonews.com/article/8395...win-tour-again

Okay for all you crack smoking wannabee pro bike experts lets review. What happened to Astana in this years Tour? They weren't invited. Why weren't they invited? Because of what the previous version of the team did in the 07 Tour. Who was on that team that disgraced the Tour? Vino. So you knuckleheads really believe that ASO would welcome any team that Vino was attached to back into any of their races?
Basso will get shelled this year, he doped, I don't care what he said about 'not inhaling'. I have doubts that Liquigas will even get an invite to the Tour. Jan would have trouble making the top 20 of Tour at his age and clean. ASO and cycling in general are trying to turn the page, they don't need these guys to come back and remind everyone that the previous races were less than pure.
