I'll be 51 years old in a few weeks. I don't know how much longer I can ride with the 35+ or even the 45+ guys. Sure, I know guys who are 60+ who do that, but they are generally riders who were considerably more talented than I ever was as a younger cyclist. At my best, I was a strong 4 who could have upgraded to 3 had I raced 35+ times as a Cat 4 and made it my mission. But I quickly started doing Vets races because they were so much safer and saner. I never saw the point of upgrading to 3, because as a 3 I would have been out of my depth anyway. Now I think about trying again, but the sheer volume of racing and travel I'd have to do make me prefer 35+ races (where I can try to help the team I sponsor), TTs and local competitive rides like Nyack. I do enjoy all that.
So I figure maybe I can keep hammering for another 5-6 years. If I can go longer than that, great. Hell, maybe I'll be doing 55+ TTs until I'm 65, and then 65+ TTs. But you never know. You're one little surprise tweaky pain from the end of you racing career at all times. Don't I know it.
It's fun trying my little Road Nazis. For all the idiot elitism that pervades this sport, it's mostly very cool guys who are mostly helpful, friendly to newcomers and don't fit that stereotype. Mostly. It's easy to find the aholes of course. They're at every race.

That's funny. One of my teammates won the elite category of a 90 mile MTB race this year on his 'cross bike. Those real men must have been pretty embarrassed.

, and you know that the team takes racing pretty seriously. I'd say I spend a fair amount on bike stuff, but it's mostly a factor of the amount that I ride, not the racing, per se. Other than the power meter and race wheels, I probably spent more last year before I really started racing seriously. I do have two bikes as well (and I know your race bike is nicer than my race bike ).
I have been seeing a chiro lately, for a problem that I've had for a while (before cycling), but I just made the connection between it and something that's been bothering me while riding. I get semi-regular massages from my wife, whenever I beg enough, or do enough "favors" to guilt her into it

I'm curious to know how many amateur racers have cycling coaches, chiropractors, masseuses, multiple power meters, training bike and race bike? How many of you are paying out of pocket for all this?
I'm not knocking it if you have the time and money to do the mentioned above, because I'll admit that if I could afford the time and money, I'd probably do it too.
I raced Cat 3 this past season and while chatting at the races w/ other competitors and over hearing conversations, I was surprised to find out how much money is being dished out for personal "internet" coaching, weekly chiropractor and massage appointments, and other training aids. Most of these guys are 3's, 4's, and 5's. Yes, some of them are striving to be Pro's and Cat 1's, but it just seems a bit much for amateur Cat 3-5 racing.

I need to come clean I have a nice Specialized SL2 w/ DA and Carbon Reynolds race wheels. I kept my old Specialized Tarmac Pro as a winter training bike. I also have a nice Specialized 07 Transition TT bike w/ tri-spoke and disc.
I don't have a personal coach, but I did get a personal training program from a successful ex-pro 2 years ago , which he set-up for me as a favor. I have followed it and its brought me a couple of wins and numerous top 5 finishes. Prior to the program, I was pack filler and off the back.
No weekly massages, but I do spend a good amount of time w/ the massage stick and self leg massages. On occasion, if my legs are hurting, I'll pay for a massage.
No Chiro, unless I get hurt.
As far as power meters, maybe someday.
