Licensing and Cat Advancement

I'd like to enter some road races next year, but since I primarily race mtb, I doubt I'll be able to enter more than 4-5 road races a year. Do I need to pay for a full license annually if I ever want to advance past cat 5, or can I get buy with a one day license for each race? (I realize I need to 10 mass starts to advance and will therefore probbaly take me 2 seasons).

It's 30 bucks extra for the road license, on top of the mountain license. So thats 3 races.... get the license!

I don't believe points and mass start credits accrue to day license holders.

It's self-reported here in TX... I don't know what kind of checking the upgrade official does when looking at a 5 to 4 request. But +1 - it's only $30, and the one-day license is $10, so on your 4th race of the year you're ahead if you buy the license.

That is if he races under USAC on the MTB, which unlike road racing, has hundreds of associations.
On a seperate note, my old coach used to race MTB as a semi-pro, when he switched to road, he e-mailed the Ohio upgrade coordinator with some results from off-road and get upgraded to a 4 with no races.
