Well, well - coached in 2009!
I was chatting with a couple of the board members of my local (non-collegiate) club this past weekend at a cyclocross cookout, and they revealed that the club is likely to go forward with hiring a coach for the racing team. Exactly what that will entail isn't yet clear, but there is some hope that it will include some kind of training plan, and encouragement for the racing team to do some training together. What should a coach/team relationship look like? Has your team done this before? I'm curious as to what this looks like. I must say, the prospect of actual team work at races is pretty exciting. I hope that can work out.
There's another possibility being floated, whereby riders who commit to do a large number of races for the team will have entry fees covered (we have a racing rewards program that reimburses riders at the end of the season, this would just mean less money at the end of the season, not necessarily incur greater costs for the club). Hmm, new bike, a coach, team work at races, limited race fees... 2009 could be a very interesting season!
