Tell your Pyrrhic victory stories

A Pyrrhic victory (IPA: /ˈpɪrɪk/) is a victory with devastating cost to the victor.

The phrase is named after King Pyrrhus of Epirus, whose army suffered irreplaceable casualties in defeating the Romans at Heraclea in 280 BC and Asculum in 279 BC during the Pyrrhic War.

Like Kris Flatlander's story of winning the hole-shot prime in his cx race.. then crashing because he blew the jump.

But I won the holeshot! ie $10 and a light.
Great job buddy!

I've got one: One stupid-hot Texas July day, small town 4 corner crit, cat 4 pack, negative racing. They called a prime with 2 laps to go. So I went after it, won it, kept going. Had to dig deep. As you know, few things are faster than a 4 pack chasing a solo flyer. Came around the last corner getting ready to celebrate, and see... 1 to go. Totally dead. Nothing more in the legs. Still managed a top 10.

My winnings? One watermelon.

That my friends is a Pyhrric victory.

Not a "Victory" per say, but really a massive fail.

Toshiba-Santos circuit race down in Hobe Sound. Attacked from the gun and kept trying to make something happen; covered every attack, attacked a dozen times, etc. Came into the last lap with a 5-10s lead on the pack, finished DFL, but it was a hell of a lot of fun.
