You just don't have a good datapoint for your 30second number.

It's totally possible to have a higher 2' number than 30" number if the 2' number isn't completely steady. Don't put too much thought into this, if you want to 'complete' your graph, go do a 30" all-out sprint, and you'll have your 30" number in there.

Current power and lap power. Pacing more than anything else.

I'm currently runnin the LYC (saris cervo) and an old, wired computer, and the wired gets screwy when i ride in the wet. This solves the problem. Poor man's Joule 2.0

I have a Cervo 2.4 that came with my PT, but since I updated it to be ANT+ and work with my Edge 500 I have no uses for it. Any ideas where I can put it to use?

something tells me that the 2.4 in ANT+ compatible, too. You may want to contact saris & double check. Their customer service is excellent.

Try updating the firmware on the cervo 2.4 & see if you can pick up any ANT+ signals

At first I thought this was a logical explanation. Then I started thinking, if I have a 1-minute of 403, shouldn't my 30-second be at least that?

Maybe I'll just try a 30-second interval next week and see what happens. I'm just trying to understand what's going on there.

Imagine you did 600W for 20s, 0W for 20s, 600W for 20s. Your best 1m would be 400W, your best 40s would be 300W.

For the Golden Cheetah users, does anyone know how to calculate stress scores from HR? I thought one of the most recent updates gave GC this capability, but i'm not getting anything.

You can get TRIMPs score, but only if you enter your HR zones into the user profile. You can do this by going to the preferences, athlete page, then select the tab for HR zones. If you know your HR @ LT you can plug that in, and it'll calculate the HR zones.

Be sure to back-date the "since date" for your HR zones so it'll re-calculate TRIMPS on past workouts.

FWIW, the zones it came up with were pretty close to what the lab told me...

Also, if you have an idea of your stress score for a particular ride, based on the TRIMPS score / other rides to compare it with, you can edit the metrics for the ride and manually plug in the bike score by going to the ride summary page, clicking on the "metric" tab at the bottom, and then clicking on the Bike Score check-box.

I just got my power tap about three weeks ago and finally got the chance to do a MAP test. I averaged 371 watts for my last minute but should have been at the 350 range for that minute by ramping it up by 25 watts per minute. Should I use the 371 to calculate my ftp or use something closer to 350?

I have not done a 20' test yet but I think that I should. Even when using 350 to calculate my ftp it seems a little high. If I can fit it into my schedule I will try to do a 20' test this weekend.

It sounds like the MAP is 371. So ftp would be in the ballpark of 275W.

Question re periodizing with TSS or other stress measure -

Let's say your average TSS/dy numbers for weeks 1-3 were 60, 70 and 80. Where would you put your recovery week? 50? Or is the recovery week more about removing intensity and TSS will just fall wherever it does.

for a recovery week, i try to do something like this:

M: off
T: 20 to 40 TSS, usually a 1 hr. ride just turning the pedals over, very little tension on the chain
W: little more, something threshold related or shorter/snappier depending on where i am in the season progression, not sure on TSS
R: same as Tu
F: off
Sat: 40 to 80 TSS, ez 2 hrs.
Sun: same as sat

so working backwards, approx 200 to 300 TSS for the week or 30 to 40 TSS/d

Yep, for most people, 75% is about right. For me, it's more like 72%. MAP was extremely consistent for me back when I used it for testing. One time I got a 500W MAP test, and I was just flying in races at that time.

I did it, I actually read the whole of this thread. Answered a lot of questions in the process, so thank you all. Three main lessons learned, NP isn't for FTP calculations, IF is handy at gauging an inaccurate FTP, and don't buy a PT as it seems 20% of all posts in this thread are PT issues (kidding, but seriously glad I will not have those issues).

what are the ramps like for your testing? how many minutes at each stage and how much watt increase between stages?

I do 10w every 30 seconds. Here are some websites that I found to be useful.

Yep, I use the protocol at cyclecoach. 5W every 12 seconds. He has a browser app you can download that puts a huge timer and current power target on your screen. Very handy.

The actual ramp rate isn't too important. What's important is that you use the same rate each time you test so you can gain some insight through the changes. If you start with one rate, then change it for the next one, you can't compare the numbers at all.

that's weird. when we do tests we start at 150-175. we increase 25 watts every 3 minutes.
