some might claim otherwise, but chainrings really aren't shimano-/sram- or campy-specific. there may be other reasons you cannot swap cranks between bikes (e.g., you have a bb30 crank-based meter but both bikes are not bb30), but the reason you cite does not rule out a crank-based meter for you (quarq, srm, power2max).

i know there can be much mystery around swapping cranks, but i can perform some crank swaps very quickly (a minute or so with a specialized crankset...one bolt), possibly faster than swapping cassettes. not trying to sway you in any way, but i think you may have more options than you otherwise might think.

Yes it is. To make it look slightly less clashing you could always source a Rotor Quarq.

FWIW, I run Duracci with Sram, and RacerEx has committed the ultimate sin of running Duracci SRM with a Campy drivetrain

ferret-- what frames do you have -- or, more to the point, what bottom brackets do they have?

in general, you can ALWAYS run a shimano (or other 24mm) crank, but it may require adapters. cranks with 30mm axles (bb30) are less compatible across frames.

10s rings are a non-issue between shimano and campy.

My Speed Concept is BB90 (GXP Crank), the Pedal Force RS2 is an English threaded 68mm bottom bracket (Campy Ultra Torque).

Will do. Exhaust all simple and cheap options first.

Does anyone else get a really short life out of their G3 hub? I've heard the G2 has 2 batteries but the G3 only has 1, and I swear I am lucky to get 100hours out of it. There is also no sign of it about to die, once I had a "low battery" warning on my garmin about 30 seconds before it died, but otherwise it just quits at random. If it was simple to change like the stages battery I wouldn't care, you can change those mid ride.
@johnk, I once replaced a battery with no luck and ended up just reseating it and it came alive. May be dirty, who knows.

Did you update the firmware? There was a bug in some of the original firmware causing batteries to die faster than normal. If you update it, the issue should be resolved.

I can confirm this. I was changing batteries at less than 500 miles on my G3. I updated it a few weeks ago and the current battery has almost 1000 miles on it and still going.

Sweet ill give that a try. I thought about updating but had this feeling that I'd update it and it would be dead afterward.

Maybe the update will give me some higher power numbers too, which is so much easier than training.

Just got a Powertap G3 generic wheelset with Joule GPS off ebay. Ran me $753 + $86 tax/shipping. Now I just need a bike to put them on...

After spending 840, I'll probably want to keep the bike to under $1800, so looks like I won't be getting anything too fancy after all

56 cm.
I've been searching ebay and everything I want is in the ~$2500 range
Of course, I don't NEED anything in that range, so I opted for power instead.

Since you've already got wheels, why look for an entire bike? A good used frameset, a used Ultegra 6700 or ten speed Force drivetrain, and bumming bars/stems/saddles that friends have sitting in a box in the garage would get you rolling again for less money. Just an option...

Idk, most bikes come with pretty cheap wheels. Frame and groupset alone might be about even, but bars, stem, headset, saddle (which I might need anyway), seatpost etc add up a good bit of time and money I think. Its tough - I'm used to a triple so I'm picky about getting 11-28 cassette and compact or mid compact crankset

You could go with a Pedal Force frame. My RS2 was $650 for a decent carbon frame, and its pretty easy to have a sub 16 lb bike for a fair price. https://pedalforce.com/online/index.p..._100088_101740

Got the Quarq yesterday, installed it, did a quick 15 minute trainer session and everything works.

Now my ribs just need to heal up so I can ride like normal again and do an ftp test

FWIW there's some feedback out there about that being a "soft" frame as you size up. Buddy bought one a few years back and hated it. YMMV

Well it is costing more than I planned, but I am going this route. Partly for fun and to see how much it ends up costing.

Cervelo S2 frameset (saddle, post, BB, headset included) - floor model, one owner never ridden $1375 with shipping.
6700 group - new/lightly used - $725
3T Ergosum Team bars (aerobar compatible for an eventual TT) - $157
105 pedals - $65
powertap G3 wheelset + computer - $840
Total $3140 plus stem, cables/housing, bar tape, time, more time, and more time.
That's a good $600 more than I was planning for so I better love this bike!

That's a pretty good deal Aaron; be sure to post pics here when its done!

I've pretty much decided on the Vector. Not sure if I'll get it now or in December.

I'll be keeping it inside with the balcony door locked. The bike will be locked to a stud through a hole in the wall as well, and I will be sleeping with my shotgun.
