had a good bit of drop outs yesterday. shut my router off and they went away. turned it back on and they returned. changed channels (it was set to auto). Tried channel 9 but they continued. Tried 3 and the issue appears to have stopped. Could also be simply coincidence.

Probably not. They could both be using the same 2.4GHz band.

Hell, I think I'd be under threshold with that much of a drop after #3 (I personally haven't tried ZCIs).

Yes, that is the way I have always thought of it. In this case, 5% drop after your 3rd interval would be 95% * 287 = 272 so it looks like you stopped exactly at the right time. I personally find this sort of thing difficult as I tend to have lower power numbers but higher endurance, so I seem to always be able to do 1 more, usually I'm mentally exhausted before physically.

Need suggestion for recovery from -70.6 TSB. First race next Saturday and I think I went over the top the last two weeks. I dont think my TSB has ever been that low but I guess thats what happen when you take the winter easy and after you do few weeks of solid riding. Thanks gang!

What can you do? Drink water, put your legs up, sleep more, and eat well.

Or take some T and keep hammering.

Foam roller (IT band, quads, glutes, back, inner thigh, calves). Stretch (hamstrings, glutes, quads) and Recovery Ride (Z1, 60 minutes, < 20 TSS)

I just ordered a power meter, it should be coming hopefully within the next 3 weeks. Next week is my recovery week and it would be ideal if it came by then so I can do a baseline test with good form.

What other advice would you give for people integrating power midway into their training? I started my training in November, completed 12 weeks of base, and am currently in the 4th week of what Friel would call Build 1.

Thanks in advance!

I'd do your FTP test on the second day back, day 1 being a 'break in' ride to get back on the bike depending on what you define as a rest week.

Do your ftp test, hire a coach, develop...

This is basically the exact same thing that I did last year ("trained" for a couple months, then bought a PM). Hire a coach, do a test, and let them figure it out. If you want a recommendation for one shoot me a PM

You probably already did this but - I'd buy either Friel's or Coggan's book to go with the meter. Personally, I like Friel's book, which is basically a condensed version of Coggan's.

Many people say to just train the same way for a few weeks until you have a good data set, but its just so hard. A power meter really changed the way I (and many others) looked at training.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm not going to hire a coach just yet. It's just another set of expenses. I'm a Kinesiology Major with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology so I think I'll be okay for now. Maybe if I upgrade to Cat 2.

I'm debating whether to get Friel or Coggan's book. This is my 4th season training with Friel's cycling-specific periodization methodology, but my first season actually completing a base period b/c I didn't have to travel/get sick. I'm already seeing crazy gains in the collegiate races. So I trust Friel but it looks like Coggan's is the gold standard.

Hire a coach.

j/k - don't. Just find someone fast and ask what they do. Then try it and modify to suit your tastes. You can get plenty far without knowing wtf you're doing other than riding hard and consistently for a year.

judging from what you post on here it seems having a powermeter has caused you to focus on ewang numbers without much a focus on developing actual fitness.

I think Coggan is easier to understand, more practical. Then again, I'm an electrical engineer, not a K major. Maybe it comes easier to you.

There's already three other guys with the ewang shtick; try to find something more original.

+1 to that

The few times I've done an actual FTP test, trying to do it on the first day back on the bike didn't really work.

I started using a PM 2-3 weeks ago and one important thing I noticed was that my power output was pleateauing at cadences over 100. Lower than if I was using one gear bigger with a cadence of 90-95. So that's what I started experimenting with and my stroke does feel more efficient, more engaged. I was basically a spinner before the PM and am gravitating towards a slightly lower cadence now. My guess was that it was perhaps due to more dead spots in my pedal stroke at higher cadence. Did anyone here experience this? If my guess is right, should I be working on improving my stroke (which will be useful anyway) OR just stick with what gives me higher numbers on the PM and keep going?

Thanks for the reply, yeah my recovery weeks are made up of 5 days on the bike. So I can get around that.

completely off-topic, but I'm also in Pinnacle-Reactor p/b JL Velo. Just in the little leagues so I'll be looking up to you guys
