Some interesting points on training with power here. Good quick read.:

That was a good, short, simple article. It would make a great sticky thread in this forum.

Is it the gif or how the hell are you balancing getting the left food clipped in? I've considered putting my tt bike on the rollers, but I don't want to break it just yet.

back at work after taking days off to ride and looking at the power data from my race.
I was worried it was reading high, but thanks to Strava and having access to Menso's power data, it's right in line.
So just to offend everyone, here's my distribution. 222TSS, 2:24 ride time, AP280/NP343, KG:77 and the histogram off Strava. vO2 work is paying dividends.
and my expression for the duration of the effort.

that article was great!
I lol'd hard at the "zero your power meter before every ride". I have a friend who puts out pro level numberse but cant pull away from me on a climb. I zero'd his meter when we were on a rest stop, ever since then he says I broke his PM and its reading low...haha.

The emo side of rk...
Often I see bf membes bickering back and forth at each other and it kind of frustrates me a little because we lose site of the fact that we are all here for the same reason (with the exception of WR who is just trying to get me in the sack) which is to train/race and live a healthy lifestyle. Truth is though we have a difference of opinion on many issues our common bond is the love of two wheels. Drop the bs and be positive and encourage others that are here regardless of age experience or race license category...

Turns out I'm picking up my power meter today!! Still haven't got it but I'm getting Allen & Coggan's book. I think the test I need is the CP30 to get my zones.
Regardless, I'll be able to do a test in the heart of a planned low-volume week. Perfect timing I'd say.

I'm re-reading Coggan's book, lots of great stuff but sometimes you can get lost in all the data.

You can see a black chair in the background, that's what i hold onto while clipping in.
if you are comfortable with riding your road bike on rollers, tgis is probably a two-hour long thing. You won't break things b/c you'll feel it when thing go wobbly and can right yourself. I've def rudden off of the rollers though.
there's also a trainer in the background, but i reserve that for travelling and a very few specific types of workouts.

Sorry if this is a common question, I can't seem to use the search function properly.
but can someone clarify the importance of consistent Zero-Offset values, (aka Current Calibration on Garmin Edge)
I think my manual says it usually "stabilizes" 2-3 rides when brand new. I've done about that many rides but only on the trainer. What does "stabilize" mean?
My PM is a Quarq...Day 1 got 41, then 51, then 61, then today I got 71. Is it supposed to stay the same? From what I understand, it shouldn't jump +/- 50 values day to day?
thanks in advance

Which model Quarq? The S975 has pretty crappy temperature compensation so maybe that was a factor. It does take about 5-6 rides for the chainrings to settle in.

I'm using a new Quarq Riken, Bb30 110BCD.
So I'm guessing the values are supposed to stay the same once it settles? I calibrated it post ride after 2 hours and it went back to 50. This was another indoor trainer ride, still haven't rode outdoors due to rain.

manually calibrate before and after you ride. If the delta is more than 50 you have issues. Unless you had the bike in a different temperature climate and calibrated it prior to letting the bike get to temp. As shovel said it will take a few rides to settle in with the chainrings. I also tend to auto calibrate while I ride if it is a big temp swing.

So, I could wait for WKO+ to be mac native or… for like $100 bucks I can get a windows based desktop that I could use just for cycling stuff. I don't really want to run parallels if I can get a windows based comp for ~100

Another option is a vbox machine running windows on your mac. Looks like you can find XP Professional for $30 or so on ebay. I'm not sure if there are other licensing options available. At any rate, this would be more convenient, as you could do the WKO+ stuff while away from home (assuming you install the vbox machine on a Macbook).

was my solution, and is nicely server based, so as long as I can upload a ride from anywhere, I'm good.

however, like WR said, if you have the space for a separate computer then no harm in that.
that said, the main reason i use WKO+ is to manage multiple athletes. some of the free software i'd used over the years was more or less fine for dealing with one athlete's data, but i found them lacking for managing multiples. the big caveat is that i haven't gone back to any of them in the last 6 or 9 months, so there may have been some changes on that front if it is relevant to you.
