From being at a high of 44, my CTL is back down to 35. It's probably going to keep falling for the next week or so.

Joy!

How do you guys name your saved wko files? Do you stick w/ the default (ie. Athlete_Joe_4_21_2009.wko) or do you make it more descriptive (ie. 4_21_09_Ace_Speedway.wko | 4_21_09_SST.wko)?

what exactly does "fix downhill watts" do?

Re: WKO in wine -- I just used a term to copy the .wko files into my athlete's directory while WKO was running - it seemed to load everything.

My FTP is up 15+ watts this month and I've lost 5 lbs. HR is dropping faster and further in recovery. I'm not even reaching my TT heart rate at interval end. I could easily go another 20 min w/o resting. I'll adjust my interval targets at month end.

Hit a new personal best last night on the local training ride! My 5 sec power has been hovering in the Cat 5 area of the graph, so I've focused on it the last 2 weeks. Now it's mid cat 3 on the graph.

Min Max Avg
Power: 905 1020 967 watts
Cadence: 95 111 103 rpm
Speed: 25.8 30 28.2 mph
Pace 1:60 2:19 2:08 min/mi
Hub Torque: 199 247 227 lb-in

Are you telling it to recalculate zones (options -> Calculate zones -> coggan power levels (or whatever))?

5" power on almost any ride, since I have a large intersection after about 5 min. into my ride. I always ride through that intersection with as much power as I can get out of my legs.

1' power just hurts a lot, so maybe once a week. 5' I haven't really done a real test.
Testing of 20' power is even worse than 1' or 5', because it hurts for the entire time. More than my stomach can take.

What is VI in WKO+? I saw in the "training status" thread that a high number means your workout is too "varied"? I can't find anything in the WKO+ help file, or on trainingpeaks.com. I tried searching this thread for "VI" but mostly just found references to people stating their number. What should you be shooting for during a specific training ride? 1.1? 1.0?

VI is "variability index", and is the result of NP divided by AP.

1.0 means NP and AP are equal, there was no "variability" in your ride.

>1.0 means that NP was higher than AP (which is normal), and just means that there was a lot of off-then-on in your ride. at least that's how i understand it.

I believe that was my comment. VI is the Variability Index. I did not mean that it is "bad" to have a high VI just that you can't really put much stock in the NP number when there is a particularly high VI. There is no "shooting"for a pariticular VI, per se, it depends on what your workout is. If you are doing intervals you are going to have a much higher VI than if you are doing something like SST or a TT. The more steady your effort is, the closer to 1 the VI will be. I have also observed that periods of coasting affect VI more than periods of high power because they affect the AP significantly, but don't affect the NP nearly as much.

Got my Quarq last week and following a few trainer rides and one outdoor ride I have learned the following:

1) I suck
2) I suck way more than I thought I did
3) Now I have absolute proof that I suck

I did my first outdoor 20' FTP test and had some questions.

225 avg and NP power for my 20' test. Minus 5%=214w for my estimated 60' FTP.

My 60' peak power is 169w and 223w NP.

Which number would you use to set your FTP, the test number of 214 or 60' peak NP of 223w?

As a general rule, NP should not be used to calculate FTP.

your peak 60' is suspect due to the variablity bit that's being discussed somewhere (here?). I'd go with the 214 ---> call it 215W and go from there. If it'll make you feel good you can say 220W and see how that works out.

215w will be the number then. That puts my w/kg at 3.71 and I feel plenty good about that w/ the amount of time I've been riding.
