US cycling hotbeds or Where should I move?
I suppose I could actually do research but here goes me being lazy. First, I should say that I know that no one should choose where they will live based on bike racing unless they are actually bike racers. As a chiropractor, my choice of next locale will be based upon that. However, I do like to race. So where can I find lots of racing with a flurry of time trials?
My impression is that SoCal, NorCal, Texas, and NYMetro area are the real places to be, but I am only guessing based on zero knowledge. NY/NJ has a wonder array of races/time trials so I feel like I am in a good spot. But where else? Mabra is supposed to be crit central. boring to me. Carolina? I lived in the Puget sound before becoming a racer - what is the scene for RACING (not rec riding...I know that well) like out there. Oregon? Anywhere else?
Show your local pride and tell me why I should move there.

NorCal has some amazing road races and training roads. I'm not sure what the TT scene is like though. SoCal has good training, but more crits and circuit races.

Socal.
Riding all year
You can do 4K feet of climbing outside your door.
Or go flat all day
Never wear anything but knee and arm warmers during the winter.
In Orange County, 95% of the roads have a bike lane. (well, it seems like 95%...its a lot compared to anywhere else it seems.)

NorCal is where the baddest of the badarses live, SoCal would be next. Texas has some fast guys, and we get a ton of road races, just about every weekend starting in mid Jan.

Austin's nice. We have two weekly TTs. Great town too. I don't ever want to leave. Lots of good racing. We have a north and a south Tuesday Nighter, and the Driveway crits every Thursday night all summer long. We have the weekly Dirt Derby CX and XC in the "off season." There a bunch of great shops, and three of them are within four blocks of each other.
Take a gander at https://www.txbra.org to see some of the forums, look at the calendar.
I think we could get you on a team that's going to rip some things up this year too

I'm pretty sure the Boulder/Denver/Colorado Springs area has some decent racing, but I'm not totally sure. Boulder has an indoor velodrome so you can train all winter.

Nor Cal or So Cal, Austin would be my third choice. I dont miss too many ride days even here in the bay area(SanJose/San Francisco)as the weather is pretty mild. Central location for tons of races, beach is a short ride through the Santa Cruz mountian( you will see some of it during the TOC). Actually prices have come down and its a good time to buy. Oh yes, and we have a velodrome in San Jose.

Boise is pretty cool, we have some extremely fast racers... but cat 3 isn't that deep.. you'd be a strong 1/2 here... but competing against some of the best time trialists in the nation... like Richard Feldman (35-39 national champion)
the riding is unbeatable here during the spring/winter/fall.. winters normally are cold, but rideable.

Bend, OR.
Probably the best talent per capita in the nation. Actually, I guarantee you.

I would second NorCal. I was in Sacramento for quite a few years before moving late last summer. I really miss it. The weather is good, their are races galore, and so many great places to ride. The bay area is especially nice cuz it's never too hot or too cold.

Cant debate the talent per capita, but there is not a ton of racing compared to the western half of the state. Just to qualify this I lived in Bend for 10years, but didnt have a break through racing wise until I moved to the other side of the mountains where there are much better roads and a lot of races within an hour.

He's not the onlyone who's gonna put on the bird flu mask and try nt to catch ebola from Tommy D.
Nor-Cal is fast and the talent goes deep but not TT heavy. Less than a dozen uscf TT's(not counting stage races)

You can't go wrong with California, I grew up in NorCal and live in SoCal, both are hotbeds, and both are filled with climbs, mups, races, and a large community.
I think it would come down to environment and weather.

A good place to ply your TT trade is here in Texas, if you're not in an actual TT you can turn the race into one
Most of the terrain biases towards watts/cda vs w/kg, you get Lance as a measuring stick, and there's a lot of stage races and omniums in addition to TT's, more if you drive a little east or south. Year round racing, two velodromes, and a lot of team dynamics. Housing is dirt cheap compared to Cali, there's no state income tax, and we have a wind tunnel.
It was 73 degrees today.

My mom's side of the family has a cabin there on Lake Superior ... damn it's nice. Course I've only ever been there in the summer and I've never had a bike there to experience first-hand. Roads look amazing though, but I'm not too sure about the winter. For those not in the know, the lake near the shore freezes over so you can drive a car out onto it.
