I really like the dogfish stuff too. Guinness will always be my favourite stout, it's a nice light beer if you ask me.
As for training though, Vodka and OJ in the water bottle is the best

Taste is personal, of course, but FWIW, www.ratebeer.com, which claims to have thousands of members in over 60 countries, has 14 American beers in the top 25 highest-rated stouts, 18 of 25 for the imperial stouts.

Though I do like Wild Turkey (the rye in particular), this is a very fine specimen of Kentucky Bourbon.

Can I get it here in Omaha? That's the million dollar question. Or, perhaps the $40 question.

Probably. Aged bourbon is getting harder to find. Booker's and Basil Hayden are 'sisters' and nearly extinct. I have half a bottle of the latter at home. Knob Creek is at Costco.

For me, this is another example of high alcohol does not a good beer make. Unibroue has a taste in their beers that I just can't get around. It's something about the combination of their hop selection and grain bill that just doesn't work for me and it's pretty consistent in all of their beers. This doesn't mean they produce bad beer. A lot of people really like their products, I just think there is a lot better out there.
As far as ratebeer.com goes, it's a good place to get ideas. If a beer places high I'm more apt to give it a shot. That doesn't mean I'll like it, but sometimes you see something on there that you haven't ever drank. When that happens, and then I see it on a store shelf, it usually ends up in the cart.

My wife's been drinking Kwak, best friend likes the Chimays, and I usualy drink Guinness or anything by Shiner or St Arnolds. St Arnolds actually has a bike team, and some very nice jerseys.

I had Smithwick's for the first time last Summer when in Kenmare, Ireland and it was perfect for my mother-in-law, who wanted something a little dark but not thick...I like it too and was delighted to see that it is easy to find wherever I go in the US, granted, in bottles...although, it would not surprise me were Gingerman in Austin to have it on tap...just never thought of getting it on tap there with all the choices they offer.
Had 512 Pecan Porter over the holidays at Alamo Drafthouse...liked it!!

It's a taste that reminds me of a grassy/dirt. Very earthy. I don't really know how else to describe it. It's not just a hop or grain, it's the combination of the two. Whatever it is, just doesn't work for me.
In fact, a couple of years ago I got a 'Trader Joe's' special beer. One drink and I tasted it. Checked the bottlel, yup, Unibroue.
I respect their work as a brewery. They put out a big list of beers and a lot of people like what they do. It just isn't what I like. In a lot of ways, that's the good part of a microbrew. You don't have to appeal to everyone. Just get your niche market and you're good. BMC beers try to not offend anyone. The small places are fine with offending people because if they really _don't_ appeal to some, that will probably mean that they really _will_ appeal to others.

Wow I was just sucking back a beer (smuttynose, portsmouth NH) when I came across this post.
I really like some of the microbrews available in the US. Here in New England we are spoiled for choice and variety.
In gnereal though European commercial beers are far superior to their American counterparts.
Actually, being from Ireland, Guinness is a great beer......but I doubt many of you have had REAL Guinness
I think a Guinness cycling jersey would be cool!

I've had plenty of 'real' Guinness and I think the stuff you get in the states is just as good. As far as Smithwick's goes....meh I'd rather have Harp which I don't even really care for.
