I just got a DVR setup from my cable company for Christmas. I would never go without again. I was able to watch the whole Tour Down Under whenever I wanted, I'm taping all sorts of shows I used to miss. I also got a Playstation3. Games for the kids, Blu Ray for Dad.....but the DVR is getting much more use than the PS3.

Get a DVR ! The 2009 season is just starting !!

My 2008 TdF Tivo recordings came out to 415 gb after editing out the commercials. Looks like I'll have to buy another HDD before July.

You're only going to get Versus via cable or satellite so that's only going to work as long as your cable provider has an analog signal and Versus is among the analog channels. Though it's not HD, cycling coverage looks a lot better in digital on Comcast.

Will Versus HD show the Tour of California in hi-def, or will it be standard-def, merely shown via the HD channel? Thanks.

Yeah, last year's TDF wasn't broadcast here (so. CA.) in HD but the vid quality from VS HD compared to VS standard-def channel was night & day. The HD channel broadcast had tons more detail. (DirectTV)

Whose bright idea was it to start the ToC on Valentine's Day? (not a debate about the merits of the "holiday", merely a comment that the majority of betrothed men are otherwise obliged on this day)

I was wondering about the valentines day too...isn't V-day mainly an American holiday? maybe that's why.

the ToC ends on my 21st birthday though!

I'm not sure, but even under the assumption that Valentine's Day is an American holiday... this is still an American tour, right?

I was thinking more from a spectator/revenue perspective, absent consideration of the riders in the race.

ah gotcha now. yeah that doesn't seem conducive to drawing a big crowd considering the demographic...

sure many wifey's wouldn't appreciate it.

it's like NASCAR, they NEVER race on Mother's Day.
