I really hope they put the finish on Palomar next year. How cool would that be. That's like a 1 hour climb.

Anyone intersted in a bit of friendly competition?

My dad and I are battling using the Versus fantasy cycling thing. If you want to join us, make an account then join the league "rams cycling." pm me for the password

Makes it interesting because you can't just stack it... you only have so much money to spend.

I think he's going to win a Grand Tour in '10. He's wicked fast uphill.

He lost over 2 minutes to Levi in the stage 5 TT last year... that was only 15 miles long. He won't ever win a GT with a long TT unless he ends up with many minutes to play with.

Also remember that he's only 22, he's got time to improve. If Sastre can win the TdF, then Gesink will be able to.

::EDIT:: He also won the young rider's jersey at the Tour of Cali in 2007.

If you can climb well, you can TT well. It's just that most of those 100 lb mountain goats don't want to spend time on their TT rigs. The engine is obviously there. Basso is the classic example: he just put some time in on the TT bike, getting position, adjusting to that position, and discovering optimal cadence and smoothing that out. Climbers all have the engine, and Gesink is certainly no exception. Everyone knows today that you can't win on climbing alone -- Sastre was an exception to the rule, succeeding by basically being on a hugely dominant team.

If somebody from Astana (probably Levi – the odds-on favorite) doesn’t win then I’ll go with Cancellara. If the race comes down to the ITT, then he could pull it off. He’s the best time trialist in the field and he’s got a great team (including both Schleck brothers.)

It’s interesting that the last day is tough enough that there could be some play in the GC.

I agree that there should be a mountain-top finish – no stage race can be great without that. I think I read the there are six mountain-top finishes in the Giro this year.

I root for Cancellara in any race that he competes in.

Palomar comes some 50 miles before the end - it'll stir things up but i don't think it'll affect the top 5.
