Kudoes to each of you.
I had to reread the report a few times and I'm still not processing the whole thing. But, well done!!!
The sprint is coming around!!!! Very cool!!
Yes!!!!
poolesville RR. P123. 7 laps, 72 miles, includes 1.5 mi. gravel section, lots of short rollers including a couple that are steepish, and has sections on a ridge with open fields so susceptible to lots of wind. 75 starters, race of attrition. very hard and somewhat confusing race.
...
This jump from Cat 3 to Cat 2 might be pretty easy for some, but for me, it's like learning to race all over again. Pack fodder and having a good time doing it

Well guys... I did it, first win today. Houston Grand Criterium. It was on a very long, non-technical course, more of a circuit races. 50 minutes for the C4s. I convinced myself to sit in. I sat near the front the entire race and avoided the 3 crashes which occured. On the final straight run in to the finish I jumped @ 1.2 km to go, averaged 30.0 mph for 1:33 to the finish.
I figured at that distance, if I jumped hard, everyone would hesitate - they did. One guy responded about 4 seconds too late to grab my wheel, and another about 4 seconds after the 2nd dude. They ended up 2nd and 3rd.
Unfortunately no power data, as I was using my aero wheels. no prize money, i got a useless gift certificate for a shop I'll never visit.. Can't ask for everything.

I was the promoter for the Sprint Into Spring and also planned to race the women's 40+ / CAT 4 race and the women's 1/2/3
As the promoter.. I got ZERO warm up.. and had very little eat before hand... jumped on the bike right before the my first race... sat in the first two laps.. the first Prime I cranked it up to open the legs... won the Prime.. then pulled off and stupidly let a gap open up.. chased for like 8 laps.. but slowly worked my way back to the field... Made a deal with a gal I race with a lot... knew they would set up a train... grabbed her wheel with one to go... she took the fastest line through the turn.. and launched me right at the 200m mark... I was gone....
WON with a 3 / 4 bike length gap!!!
Second race.. just hung on the field for as long as I could.. got lapped.. but at least I was not DFL a couple of other gals we lapped as well and I made sure I beat them to the line..

Fox River Grove. same race as kepst. got shelled a bit sooner than him.
nasty hill. my first 3s race. my first race back after my crash. I decided to go masochistic and race it in my 23T. I think a 25 would have helped me stay with the group--but still, fitness is not where it needs to be. I'm sure I was DFL. But DFL > DNF...and there were lots of those.
First true hill in any race I've done this year. After looking at my PT data, I know my limiter: quick recovery. Vo2s will help with that, so will cross-over intervals. Time to start training. Lots to do before July.
Had I been able to stay with the leaders this race would have looked like this workout:
12x ~1' x 2' recovery. The 1' @ ~6.3-5 w/kg, and the 2' recovery spattered with 300w + attacks.
couldn't do it today. no juice.

Mike868y -- good show on lots of racing; well done in the Juniors.
SalsaPodio - sweet aggressiveness.
Ze - unlucky dude.
ColonelMom - you rock!!
Slim_77 -- very cool to get right back on the horse (wait, there was no concussion issue, was there? If yes, coming back too soon?)
I also raced Mystic Velo Crit today, Cat3, along with cdr, who was looking good! It was a technical, windy course that I did not fully figure out. I came in 22nd/pack finish, 219ap/243np and 25.1mph.
The ap vs np results are interesting to me. I felt like I did not have the course figured out at all; yet, the VIF (i.e., np/ap) is not too high, which might suggest I was able to figure out how to smooth out my lines. During the race, I felt like I was doing a lot of accelerating and expected a high VIF; I guess I was just putting out good effort most of the way
A cool thing is that I met someone who used to ride for the Violet Crown (he introduced himself when he saw my kit) -- maybe some of you Austin folk know Tony Hill.

That kid from Team CF who kept attacking your race looked very strong. It was a shame he couldn't make anything stick.

The less said about the last lap the better, but I pretty much screwed up my positioning completely and ended up toward the back going into the last lap, and finished pretty much at the back of the pack. I still felt like I had legs but I just wasn't in a good spot and I wasn't going to sprint for 20th place or whatever. Four girls went down right around me and a few were taken away in an ambulance so I think that was a good call.
My race report will be shorter:
My race was a mess. I placed 24th in the TT, and found myself at the back of the pack way too often in that crit. My legs were fine. My head was a mess after seeing my TT results. What kills me is that crash happened after the race was over. We were across the line. I had someone take out my front wheel while avoiding a falling rider in front of her. Nothing I could do. Had no time to react. I fell on my right side and tumbled a good distance. The EMT was sure my hand was broken, but a few hours in the hospital confirmed that I am not broken, just bruised and scraped. I bailed on the RR today because my bike is a little messed up, my helmet is smashed, and I'm walking with a limp.
My team, however, ended up 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. So it wasn't a good race for me but it was a great race for my team.

Last year when I raced that mystic velo crit. I went grass surfing on the 2nd last lap. Managed to get ahead of some people on the grass and come back on the course. I think I finished like 5th. That was a fun course. I went off road a couple of times. I told someone I should have raced on a cross bike. Heh.

Bear Mountain today. First race as a 4.
Wasn't quite sure what to expect going in as I heard that a lot of the NY guys really like this race and plan the beginning part of their season around it/there would be a handful of guys ready to take their 3 upgrade. I had ridden the course once, but didn't quite remember it. Wasn't expecting a ton, but was hoping for a top 20. The start wasn't too exciting, they cut out the big climb for the first lap at the last second, not exactly sure what was up with that, but it happens.
First lap wasn't too exciting until we hit the downhill section to the 180 hairpin to the subsequent 10 minute climb out of it. My god was that part tough. Got a bit scared on the downhill, was doing 48 with the brakes on coming in to the turn and had guys passing me left and right. I let myself fall too far back here and came in to the climb about 2/3s of the way back in the pack. Just couldn't get back up to the lead group. They weren't gaining any time on me, but they had about a 30-35 second gap that I couldn't close the whole way up. Ridiculously hard pace all the way up though. Caught up with a chase group and found out at the top that the pack had about 35 seconds on us. We organized and hammered it pretty hard and caught back up, thats the huge difference between the 5's and the 4's. If it were a 5 race theres no way we would have been able to organize and chase effectively. The race would have been over for us. Stayed up front the rest of the time. had a lead group of about 30 I think. Not much happened until the final section. Felt really good going in to it, but didn't know the final section well enough. Got in a good sprint position, thought I was set, and realized I did it about 3 minutes too early. Got swarmed for the sprint (50mph downhill field sprint, terrifying) and had to try and sprint from 2/3 of the way back. Couldn't quite make my way to top 10, but finished 14th.
Once again, its not my fitness that messed me up, but rather my lack of pack riding skills/positioning difficulties. Really need to figure out a way to work on this. I think practice crits are going to be the way to go for me. Spend the 1st half of the race attacking and working on that sort of stuff, and spend the 2nd half setting myself up to be in good position for the sprint.

5th 5 race BLP 2209 crit in South Jersey. 4/5 field 23 miles 25.1 avg avg HR of 183 bpm. Packish finish (maybe a gap as a guy crashed in the last 200 m in front of me.
I am getting much better at cornering, But still not very good at holding position. I have the energy to fight to almost the front slowly go almost all the way back then do it all over, But this racing stupid catches up to me on the final lap or 2. I really enjoied the RR I did last year It was much easier to stay at the front and stay there. Crits are punishing me.
Picture of me on the New BMC (any position advice is welcome, still playing with it from when I got it 2 weeks ago)

Deer trail p/1/2: flatted out of the lead group after spending 60 minutes at nearly 5w/kg in the rotation in some pretty nasty wind. Gap was 1:40 when I flatted. Wheel car was behind the main field so I got screwed. Chased for about 30 min in the wind before realizing it was fruitless and calling it quits.
56 minutes, 287w AP (4.6w/kg), 315w NP (5.03w/kg). Results: nada.
I hate flats. And I hate wheel cars who don't stick with the 9 man break 2 minutes up the road more.

Wasn't quite sure what to expect going in as I heard that a lot of the NY guys really like this race and plan the beginning part of their season around it/there would be a handful of guys ready to take their 3 upgrade. I do have the data, although its slightly rounded up, I hit 47.5. I said 50 because I could've gone harder, but I backed off when the guy in front of me cut over two lanes without looking and almost clipped a wheel, so I have NO doubts that the guys up at the front who didn't have to worry about people in front of them were going a good bit faster.
Apparently its pretty common for crashes to happen during the finishes in this section, and they've been using the same finish line for years. I'm just happy we got through it safely.
