I've heard rumors about PEDs down here. Kinda makes me laugh though. Actually there is a team that is sponsored by some sort of fountain of youth clinic that doses out HGH and testosterone. I don't know if any team members are taking it, but kind of ironic...

Here's my rationale I guess.

I've heard your arguments Pcad... I see your point. Its there, its available, why not use it (I think this was it essentially, but correct me if I'm wrong)

The thing with doping is, its disrespectful to the sport, yourself, your sponsors, your fans, and its illegal.

If you go out and destroy the hour record and someone finds out you doped, then really... a man didn't defeat this record. No other man will likely be able to defeat that record without using some sort of advanced technology or performance enhancers. Baseball is the best example of this (if you can call it a sport ) All of the sudden, these blokes step out and start cranking out homers. Simply put, if you weren't doping I don't think you'd be able to do it. I think this is evidenced by the former half of their careers. So then what or who is really winning? This is the same reason there is an imposed weight limit on bicycles, and that fairings are illegal. Because we want to see the "man" (generic term for human) be able to accomplish the task the same way any other man could. I can go out and buy the same exact race bike raced in the pro tour 2 years ago today, will I put out the same numbers... no... but its nice to know that I potentially can compare myself to them. (If they weren't doping)

You might say well... what if everyone doped, what if it was legal. The primary reason its illegal isn't that they want to limit the competition to physical ability rather than science, its that most of the dope kills people, or is at least pretty harmful. If it was legal, the dope being used would likely be even more dangerous than it is, because there would be less effort to find ways around things. And when you take an 18-25 year old and show them the fire... they will inevitably put their hand in it, because they simply don't realize their is more to life than bike racing. The pro riders would be killing themselves with drugs to wear a stupid yellow or pink jersey.

Anyways, I hate cheaters, I feel like I'm rambling. I personally enjoy cycling. I like to and have won a good number of races. I just think it detracts from the sport. I think a teenage girl with no cycling ability at all if given the right dope and bike could probably keep up with a seasoned A racer. I just don't think thats right...

Perhaps I'll edit this on the morrow.

Do you know you can order all of the ingredients in Optygen? Total cost is about $49 and it will last more than three months. It's basically just beta-alanine, rhodiola, and chromium piccolinate.

The "everyone dopes" argument can be argued at the pro level, but we don't really know what percentage dopes. But at the amateur and master level I'm sure the percentage of dopers is lower, so they have a greater advantage over the rest of us.
