John is a good climber, Hippolyte... not so much.
I did OK. I was better than I expected, but not as well as I know I'm capable of. I ended up with a 15:33, which put me in 43rd (?) in the 2's.

Hi,
Another old road racer buddy and I did the infamous Encanto Park to Baldy Village route today. The way home went down GMR. We stopped at the finish line for a few minutes and then went about 100 meters before the finish line. We'd heard some of umd's teammates saying that they didn't know where the finish was so we started cheering on the remaining 3s and yelling the finish was just ahead and to sprint.
A couple of guys said thanks as they rode back down the hill past us.
BTW, umd I asked one of your teammates where you were and he said that you'd already finished and had headed back down the hill.
We headed down the hill after the remaining 3s had finished and we saw some of the women going up.
Really beautiful day up there. It was also the first time in I don't know how long that I've been at a road race where I wasn't competing.

It really has nothing to do with the So Cal Cup itself. The thing to keep in mind is that all SCNCA results are checked against the USA Cycling database. I run registration for SDSR and would not BS you. You will not be able to race out of category. Been doing this for five years and have seen it all before.
There open spots in the Cat 3 race if you want to take a crack at 8 laps.

Wow I have exact same hope and report, only in 4's. lol Add to that the annoyance of someone from the 35 Masters field sucking my wheel for almost a lap. He did offer to work together, but I guess I have principles or something.

Ya know... in football/basketball/etc...we often see the athletes with big egos. I figure we don't often see that in cycling 'cause we have to work our way up the ladder. We may rock in Cat 3, but it's a whole 'nother ball game in cat 2, cat 1, pro-domestic, and pro-europe, etc...
Sorry you got dropped. Brutal pace? Or were they all just spinning along, pleasantly chatting? You know... like you guys do to me on the hills

Well I barely made the cut off. Now questions is should I even bother doing the crit. At this point it's just another crit in a rain. Warming up going to suck, that is for sure.

Not just rain, but supposedly high winds. Break out your deep dish wheels!

Sounds like it. I could see from 10 minutes back. Didn't make the cut. I could do the climb ok but kept getting dropped on the descent. The descent! Are there descending intervals I can do?

Last lap started to feel a little better, and moved our sprinter up to the front for the climb, he dropped to about 10th, and I moved him back up again. Some guy jumped all out with about 1k to go as I think that he really sucks and this is really really going to hurt and I went to the front to shut it down. Sprinter sitting second wheel, I could not close the gap, took me almost 400 meters to catch him, finally did, but had to stay on the front to continue the lead out. Dropped the sprinter off with about 300 to go, a little far out, but I was toast at that point. I spent the last minute or so > 33 mph. Our sprinter took it, so at least we come away with something.
One of our other guys got a flat, and the other two were up with the lead, but just in bad position. I'm always the one left on the front for the leadout.
Get to go play in the rain again, like last year, and chuckles I don't want to hear it unless you're out there with us next time.

My teammates need leadouts, which I've found I do quite decently.
