This isn't a question of PRO or not. They clearly aren't.

I'm pretty sure the officials frown upon using seat bags during races.

Correct. I've been made to take mine off when lined up.

I've seen officials tell people to take them off.

2 weeks ago, Chain of Lakes circuit race, I absent mindedly left mine on. Up hill finish. ended up 14th. .2 seconds from a top ten. I'm sure the pound of crap in my seat bag cost me at least 5 places.

not enough room in the pockets when they are already filled with food, keys, id, $$$, cellphone, cleat covers and possibly arm and knee warmers on a 75+ mile ride

and yeah, 41

So, if they won't allow you to have a seat bag, just transfer everything to your bar bag.

Hrm, I only started racing 2 months ago, but I've left my bag on for a few road races. I've removed it for TTs and crits since flatting is less likely there, but it makes sense to me to bring it for a RR since I don't have spare wheels. Is there really a rule against having a bag on during a race? I wonder what the reasoning is.

Yes...and the one place I would consider having a seat bag (or at least a tube and CO2) would be in a long TT with no support. I think not having any boxes/bags is a mass start rule somewhere...

For racing...

RR = yes. CRIT = No.

For training...

I don't know, and clearly it's in the wrong place if the "new post" lurkers mistake it for a 41 thread.
