Exciting new life development. Friend in Somerville's 2 housemates decided that they were going to move out and signed a lease for June. They were going to move out and get a place together in sept anyway. BUT what this means is that I get to move in there in july instead of in sept. YAY!
Now I need to reconfigure one of my bikes as a commute bike. I wonder if the dude that has my cross bike is going to want to buy it off me or if he wants to give it back. If the latter, then I can set that up with fenders and a rack I hope. If he keeps it, I might get to go new bike shopping, or more realistically figure out if I can make my Trek 760 work. I doubt it though, the clearances on that bike are really really narrow and I don't think it would be able to handle my weight plus that of being loaded up. I think my fat self + a messenger bag might be pushing it for that frame already.

You have good power in that range but the issue is that you need to get separation in order for that to matter. If a few guys chase you down, they'll be able to rotate up to you. Maybe you should try doing intervals where you sprint and then get into that zone? Just to see how your body reacts and what kind of numbers you can throw out there.

At the end of the race you wouldn't even get a gap because people would be hesitant to see someone goes. Good luck though! Try something new and see how it works. That's how you learn to race!

This is fantastic. Here and there there are some crappy 90s fusion sounds, but what ears these guys have...maybe the best version of this song I've ever heard.

umd has made it through the first full day okay. I don't know how he'll hold up tomorrow though. It may start to really sink in then.

Anyone have an LG (AT&T) mobile phone they aren't using? My wife dropped her new one in the dishwater and, well ... we left it out too dry but everything is damaged - battery included.

Put it in a bag of rice asap and leave it there for the day. Trust me it works.

It just took a quick dip in the sink. She dropped it and quickly grabbed it. I'll let it dry for a couple of days. She has my phone now. Hopefully nothing will happen to that one.
Making a kilometer blurry
A 5' attack should be run like a pursuit on the track: all-out for 30 seconds, then pace it the best you can from there. When I say all-out, I mean every bit of ATP you have available is gone, maybe even warp your pedal spindles and snap a couple cleat bolts. Get that speed really high in the beginning and get a good gap, then just fight to hold onto it for as long as possible.

not sure I agree with that.
unless they let you go, or unless you already have enough sprint power to simply dominate them then I don't think it's nearly that simple.
WR, with all due respect, you have no idea what it's like for those of us who do not have the power to break a gap quickly like that.

I probably did sit in a bit more, at least until I got into ~10th slot. I move up inside the field. In the 4/5s I dont care where I move up, I just get to the front. I have 3 crits this weekend, then state crit championship at the end of the month. I want to win state crit. - cat4allstar. I think you're 100% right that I need to sit in hard. I put up a new 5' PB today for 374 W for 4.8 W/kg. I think should be my weapon of choice. 5' attacks. I really need to focus on sitting/protection in until 5 minutes to go.

generally the only times when I can get a good gap are A: early in the race when people think I'm crazy B: when there is a hill involved.
so I'm working on A. as far as the 5-minute thing goes, I am up to 5.25 w/kg for 5 minutes and it's barely enough to hold pace with the leaders on a 3-4 hilly race.

How does your power profile look? With this new PB, are you a clear 5' guy? I'm so clearly a 1' guy that my finish strategy is pretty obvious, but keep in mind that just because you set a PB doesn't mean its your strong suit.
A 5' attack should be run like a pursuit on the track: all-out for 30 seconds, then pace it the best you can from there. When I say all-out, I mean every bit of ATP you have available is gone, maybe even warp your pedal spindles and snap a couple cleat bolts. Good thoughts on the pacing, I remember you talking about this before in another thread. I will try it this weekend, but that sounds like something I really need to practice in intervals to see how bad I'm going ot have to hurt. This is the risk losing part I have to get my head into. Risk blowing up for the possible win.
PS: how do i get pictures to show up like eveyrone else? mine are always attachments....

all I know is, from that power profile I assume you can do 290 for an hour.
I think given the right positioning I could stay away for a really long time with 290 (I am pretty small though)
Hence I would focus more on the longer break strategy (maybe you can incite a few others to join you)
