    Quarq Review on PezCyclingNews

More impressions for those still on the power meter fence. Thought I'd pass it on.

I was pretty underwhelmed by their review. Not that it came across as a bad product by any means, just their tone about it. Chalk it up to poor writing, perhaps.

Yeah. I'll be really interested to see how it all works when/if the Qranium is ever released.

+1. I was convinced they were ripping it until I got to the last paragraph.

They just put it off until they get more cranks on the road, still I don't expect to see it ever.

It's almost like they set out not to like it, and then had to admit that it works pretty well.

Honestly, I read it as neutral to slightly positive with a nod of approval in the conclusion.
I still want one. Perhaps that's why I was looking for all the good stuff.

Which would appear to be a rational decision. Before the 705, they needed the Cranium. Now they don't really need it.

The 705 is really pretty nice, marries seemlessly with the Quarq, and is likely to only get better. So Quarq is smart to let Garmin handle the head unit, leaving Quarq to focus on getting the power meter itself right, getting the new crank models out, and supporting the product.

That's how I read it. They ripped a bit on the "coming soon" type stuff but generally the review felt positive. A few times I felt like the writer didn't know what they were talking about though

I just wish they would fix the NZAP issue...

I think umd's referring to the "the power shown on the 705 doesn't include time not pedaling" -- but I think that's a Garmin issue, so I'm confused.

No...NZAP is "Non-Zero Average Power", i.e. the average power is of only the non-zero samples.

And...that's one part where the reviewer sort of missed the boat. You DO get zeroing feedback from the 705 in the form of the offset value in units of N-m divided by 32. IME though, even over wide temp swings, the offset number doesn't change by more than 10-15 "points", which by my calculations is equivalent to ~1/3 of a Watt at 90 rpm. The zero offset of the CinQo is VERY stable...unless there's something drastically wrong, that is...which is very rare.

Is it just me, or does it seem like SRAM's S900 cranks went up in price across the Internet?
    (but not on Quarq's site)

Ok, so this is why my average power displayed on the Garmin is higher, than I end up seeing in the Cycling Peaks file?

Yes, but I was responding to Merlin's comment about using the 705. My only real complaint about the 705 is the non-zero average power.

For Quarq, does the 705 > the iBike, then?

Never having used an Ibike, take this fwiw, I would say yes.

The Ibike Aero paired with a power meter does give you the intrguing possibilty of a "virtual wind tunnel"
However, it's $799, and you don't even get GPS.
