No, getting dropped is not good for the ego. If you quit a crit after being dropped, what more harm could possibly be done?

(Full disclosure: I've only been dropped in one crit - along with the entire field. I got pulled when the leader lapped me. I was hurting too much to know I should quit).

I haven't ever been pulled in a crit (yet). I did one with a nasty climb in it last year. As people would get lapped, they'd get pulled. 75 starters and 20 finishers. I was #20. I climbed that damn hill 13 times. It was ugly. People were quitting (without getting pulled) left and right. There was no shame in abandoning that race.
